Jay Bilas thinks.....

He's got Baylor and ASU above UT. I don't think either of those 2 are better than us.

Yankee I'm not arguing his list, simply saying just because we are in how top 68 doesn't put us in the tourney. Thus why he has Baylor and ASU ahead of us and they're also out of the tourney.

That's just it, it's subjective from here on out. The only objective way is to do what Ole Miss did, win the tourney.

Now it's up to the opinion of the committee.

How can you have a team ranked in your top 68 but out of the dance?

Because 31 teams take up a spot regardless of ranking, that leaves 37 open spots. IMO, those next 37 should be in order of RPI and nothing else matters then. In that case, we're not even in the discussion at an RPI of 62 because there's no way it gets that far down. If they went to that simple of criteria everyone would pretty much know where they stand in advance. With the RPI being a factor of record, SOS and top 50/100 wins then I don't see what other criteria is necessary. If we had beaten Gtown we're in no questions asked and possibly even if we beat UVA. The UGA losses and not beating one of UVA - Gtown did us in.

Don't get me wrong, I want to be in and given any number of criteria the committee chooses to use this year a case can be made for us, but they change their criteria every year to fit their agenda. But in all honesty when there's only 37 spots up for grabs I don't see how a team ranked 62 deserves to be in.

MTSU over UT for at large bid per Lunardi's bracket
hard to believe things have changed that much in 2 years.

I wonder how many players on MTSU's roster, UT even offered.

Ridiculous since MTSU only has one win vs. Top 50 teams (Ole Miss). Tenn has 5

62. Tennessee Volunteers (Previous ranking: 51)

Offensive rebounds (36.1 percent) have really helped, but they are almost a must given some poor shooting (48.1 eFG%, No. 201 in the nation). Jarnell Stokes requires a double-team and Jordan McRae was The Bilastrator's SEC Player of the Year, but Tennessee is an NIT team.

Looks like Bilas was right.

I don't understand how Bilas can say this and then argue for us on national TV. Unless it's a comment on the amount of teams in the tourney in general, in which case I agree.
