Despite losing to UGA on Saturday, Bilas (ESPN's NCAA Tourney expert) took Tennessee from #64 to #47 in this week's updated rankings. Here is what he said:

The Vols had won six in a row, including wins over Kentucky and Florida, before losing to Georgia on Saturday. Tennessee shot only 38 percent from the field against the Bulldogs, and the only standout performance was by Jordan McRae, who busted out for 35 points on 8-of-11 from 3-point range. In his past four games, McRae has averaged 29 points and 6 rebounds per game, scoring 34 points against LSU and 27 points against Florida.

This is all fine and dandy for our tourney hopes, but we'll need a much better team effort from here on out. No more "McRae Day" without supporting cast help, because Jordan can't get it done by himself.

The interesting thing about these rankings is that we are a combined 1-4 against all of the SEC teams ranked behind us by Bilas. We have yet to play Missouri.

If we make it to the dance, we can truly say that playing a difficult non-conference schedule didn't hurt our chances. Losing to Georgetown by 1 point on the road is looking better and better each day.

Once again, Trae Golden took the day off and we lost. When he stinks, we stink. This is the truest barometer of how this team performs and it's no accident that he also happens to be our point guard.

That lists pretty much cries out: weak conference! But then we all knew that.

Can't believe losing to Ga did us so much good! :)
I know it's due to teams like Ala, Miss, etc losing....guess we lucked out!

I just don't know why Cuonzo doesn't let Lopez play some more. Would be fine with me if trae is playing bad

I think a little of the benefit we have, is the fact they see Arkansas as a good home team, and can't play on a neutral field, Alabama can't schedule any tough out of conference games. And Ole Miss will beat a good team and then lose to the worst team in the SEC the next. Despite us losing on Saturday, I feel the thing that helps us the most is consistency of play.

Has Richardson ever played point? Lol

He's brought the ball up the floor and turned it over against the press. We really don't have many options. If Trae isn't bringing the ball up the court, my next choice may be McBee. He can at least dribble. If the opponent is not pressing, it doesn't really matter who brings it up.

I am not sure we have anyone on staff that is very knowledgable about low post offense. And when a big gets the ball in the paint without gameplan, happy feet happen real quick.

Stokes not always recognizing a double-team is also too blame. He needs to see it and find the open man better. IMO

I agree on Stokes. He has gotten better as the season goes along though.

Stokes tends to get a little too excited when he knows he has to be aggressive. When he was tearing it up, he was taking his time in the post. Not saying he always took it slow because he took advantage of opening when they were there.

But yeah, that has happened a few times this year. Stokes comes out with a ton of energy, which is awesome, but he's a little out of control and tends to botch his finishes at the rim.

Most of the time when that happens, they just don't put the ball on the floor before they move their feet. Lack of focus, or too excited to execute everything correctly.

Or just being a moron like Kenny hall. How a senior still doesn't understand how to pivot and when to dribble is beyond me, dude must have 0 brain cells left.
