Good lord. Can we stop hiring people based on what their last name is and the coaching record of their relatives? You would have thought we would have learned our lesson by now.

There are lots of coaches out there with solid recruiting experience and a history of winning repeatedly as a HC in college football. Why overlook them for a coordinator with no college coaching experience?

It would be a high risk high reward hire. I doubt it happens though. You couldn't interview him until early January. Also he may be getting a NFL head coaching job.

Why no interview before then???

Sure he would finish out the year but could be named sooner

Jay would not be a HR hire. He is a decent coach but not great and he doesn't carry the face/name recognition Jon does that would help him in receuiting.

Sounds like backtracking or BS to me.

Distraction, NFL teams or college teams rarely grant interviews until season ends. He will likely interview for NFL teams. Depending on how the Bengals finish, he might take over for the Bengals though unlikely.

A number of coordinators have taken college jobs before the season was over. Penn state and ND come to my head first

They did finish their season as well

So a sought-after coach that MANY NFL teams considered hiring as a head coach this last off season, suddenly is just an ok-at-best coach not good enough to be a head coach in the college ranks?

Damn ya'll are ridiculous. Its truly a great thing none of you run an athletic department haha

Where was he seriously considered??

I don't know so I am not arguing with your point.

He interviewed with the Rams, Jaguars, and reportedly turned down the Colts because he decided to sign his extension offer from the Bengals. Loyalty thing.

That's probably an alt account to help boost his cause.

huh? I wasn't aware I had a cause lol. I'm not saying Jay would be a great hire.... don't think it'd be bad by any means, but not sure if its the one we need right now.

Thanks. I could get behind this hire but no college experience is a huge issue IMO. His name rec isn't good enough to insure great recruiting .

Yeah I would agree with that. I wouldn't complain about the hire, but its not someone I think our program needs right now. We need bigger.

I'll say again.

If Arky hires a proven CFB coach and we hire Tag a long Jay then we deserve to lose some more. Is the guy qualified to be a coach? Sure, he's been excellent in arena league. His Bengals have set the world on fire what with all that offensive dominance.....

Btw 29th in 3rd down conversions.

Youre right, what were those NFL general managers thinking interviewing him for a head coaching position?

I really think he should be putting out a top 10 offense with all those players.... I mean hell, he has a 2nd year QB, a really good WR, nice receiving TE, those uh.... top tier offensive lineman haha, those uh.... top tier running backs? And up against best defensive conference in the NFL? Damn what a waste of talent he has going there lol

Dude, I get what youre saying. But to say he's a bad hire is just stupid. I don't believe he is the hire we need or even should inquire about. But to say the guy isn't qualified or talented enough to be a college HC when he's considered for HC positions in the NFL is just a little absurd
