didnt you just get on doozer about being a smart ass in the other thread?

It's a running joke around here. I would have thought you knew that.

honestly, it is good to see a JG conversation without the usual "insert your own JG redneck whine" comments. it may just be his struggles over the past couple of years, or probably just that we have an educated, unbiased group in the Nascar forum. i love the guy. he raced like Kyle Busch in his early days. Then he realized that Ray could build him cars that didnt require so much "cockiness," and still won. his win total has decreased over the past couple of years, but it does make a win that much more appreciable. i remember in 98' that he won so many races, that his team was just hi fiving instead of jumping for joy, because they were so damn used to winning. now i wait patiently for another appearance in victory lane. i still love the guy.
I say it happens this weekend.

How many wins has his total wins been decreased?

Also, why were they taken away?

Once Jeff and Brooke split, Jeff's in-race radio commentary has been, well, entertaining. If you ever get a chance at a race to listen in to him, he'll get as animated as anyone out there.

I'll take a top 5 finish and points leader anyday but I thought this was a race he would win, should have won.

Just bumping him back to the top of the Nascar forum since he is "Our Leader".:)

I can't figure this team out. I blamed Letarte for a lot of Jeff's problems but he has the 88 team running better this season. I know it is still early and Jeff even won this year but they continue to be inconsistent. I know Gustafson is not the problem, he is an outstanding crew chief.

I'm wondering if his back problems are causing his racing performance to suffer.

I can't figure it out either. Jeff does fairly well at Dega every now and then. Hopefully he'll get a top 10 this weekend! He needs it!

He needs to hang it up.

Jeff doesn't even turn 40 until later this year. It's crazy to think he is still in his thirties since he's been racing in Cup so long. He is the same age is Kenseth and Stewart, younger than Biffle and Reutimann. He is also only 4 years older than Johnson, Harvick and Montoya and 3 years older than junior.

He is old I guess in "racing years" but so are a lot of the guys I listed. He's had issues with his back but he hasn't mentioned that in a couple of years as far as I know.

I think he may have lost some of his competitive fire. He has good equipment, a good team, a good chief and he has proven he knows how to drive. What else could it be? Those guys push it to the limit each lap around the track and I think Jeff may not be reaching that limit anymore to where the car is on the verge of breaking traction. He's been in Cup so long i think he has other interests such as his family but that isn't something he can admit publicly that he isn't 100 percent racing.

It was a little odd how he handled his win earlier this year. Almost like a "golly gee, I can't believe we won" attitude when the old Jeff would be like hell yeah I won and I plan on winning next week too. He gave too much props on beating Kyle Busch and the old Jeff expected to beat Kyle Busch but that's just my opinion on it.

Most racing careers usually last into the early 50s, but Jeff has said he doesn't want to race that long. I can't remember what age he wants to retire but its in the 40s.

Jeff started Nascar way earlier than any of those guys, he's building a new family, and he's not as physically capable as he used to be. I'm not saying he's a backmarker, but he knows the grind is just too tough to endure in Nascar after so long.

there's a correlation between having children and a drop in performance on the track. it doesn't happen to every guy, but it happens.
