Jeremy Johnson benched

It was inevitable.

When was the last time that a guy getting so much preseason hype crashed and burned to this level in just 3 games?

Is Auburn content with Woody Barrett as their 2016 QB? Because it's looking like he will be the guy the moment he steps on campus. And if he isn't the answer, Gus may not survive beyond 2016.

At this point, is AU staring at a last place finish in the West? It's going to come down to their game at Arkansas, right?

Such a strange trajectory Gus has taken. His offense was a juggernaut when they had a corner back taking snaps. Now that they have an actual quarterback (or at least that's what they have thought they had in Jeremy Johnson for 2 years now) they are cat excrement. Just a bizarre story.

Coker wasn't getting much preseason hype, though.

I beg to differ. He was getting major preseason hype prior to last year's fall camp. Plenty of sportswriters had already declared him the starter as soon as he set foot in Tuscaloosa.

I seem to recall announcers pounding that drum last year before the season

He was definitely in the conversation in preseason

He was in the conversation to win the job and then didn't. He wasn't preseason 2nd team All-SEC and then benched after 3 weeks.

I thought Mauk was 2nd team all SEC??? Anyways... You were the one who asked. Coker is the closest example I can think of. :whistling:

What are you talking about? When was Coker on preseason Heisman lists?

Dear Lord Baby Jesus...

It doesn't matter if he was on Heisman preseason lists. He was anointed the heir apparent and the greatest thing to hit college football once he stepped foot on Bama's campus. Without ever taking a snap mind you.

By whom? Bama fans?

There was more than conversation with the sportswriters.

Don't even try to deny it.

Every link you posted contains a variation of "if he wins the job".

And among the sportswriters, Johnson was on their 2nd team All-SEC. Coker was not. Not saying Coker didn't get more love than he deserved. But the gap between hype and results is much wider for Johnson than Coker, which is what I asked.
