Jeremy Johnson benched

Every link you posted contains a variation of "if he wins the job".

And among the sportswriters, Johnson was on their 2nd team All-SEC. Coker was not. Not saying Coker didn't get more love than he deserved. But the gap between hype and results is much wider for Johnson than Coker, which is what I asked.

No, you asked:

When was the last time that a guy getting so much preseason hype crashed and burned to this level in just 3 games?

To which we replied "Jacob Coker." Which is accurate since he was getting some major preseason hype from the moment he announced his transfer. From fans and sportswriters alike.

And yes, Coker has crashed and burned over what he was expected do to.

I guess "to this level" means "just any level" to some folks.

But that's fine. If you want the last word, have at it. The thread's been hi-jacked long enough.

This poor kid was being made out to be the next Cam Newton, there was no way he could have lived up to the hype. Started like 3 games and was being talked about as a potential Heisman winner because if "that offense". Bigger question, is this Auburn team gonna end up a bigger disappointment than the 2005 Tennessee team?

Kenny Thrill? don't remember much preseason hype, but after 1 game people were declaring the Heisman race over. where is he now anyway?

Is Auburn content with Woody Barrett as their 2016 QB? Because it's looking like he will be the guy the moment he steps on campus. And if he isn't the answer, Gus may not survive beyond 2016.

This is an interesting deal. White is a pure pro-style QB, even more so than Johnson. He's not terribly fast (5.05 in the 40). He doesn't give off the vibe of a typical Malzahn QB.

That said, as long as he isn't legally blind like Johnson, surely he can't do much worse.

Is he the type of QB that can run Malzahn's offense correctly, though? It seems like he prefer guys who are athletes as opposed to great passers, but JJ was apparently neither.

Don't know anything about him A....just saw that that's who Malzahn has apprentice tabbed to start in Johnson's place.

Yeah. That's what I'm saying, though--if he sucks and the freshman coming in 2016 isn't the answer immediately, Malzahn is screwed. It seems like his offense doesn't run at all unless he has a Cam Newton or at least a super athletic guy like Nick Marshall taking snaps.

:lolabove: this is how he apologizes for being wrong! :w00t:

I think it was Andre Ware who said JJ cannot read defensive coverages and predetermines where he is throwing the ball before every snap.

I beg to differ. He was getting major preseason hype prior to last year's fall camp. Plenty of sportswriters had already declared him the starter as soon as he set foot in Tuscaloosa.

True but wasnt Johnson being hyped as the best QB in the SEC and a potential heisman candidate?

So was Dobbs by some.

The point being that Bamawriter obviously wanted to take the opportunity to bash a long standing rival of his team. Yet couldn't see the same kind of hype happened when they got a new QB that was going to be the best thing since sliced bread. And proceeded to get butthurt when some of us pointed out that fact.

There are far more players and teams that don't live up to their preseason expectations than ever do. Johnson is no exception to that rule.

White is a PP and Malzahn runs a spread ? Sure sounds like this isnt going to work anytime soon.

It was inevitable.

I heard some guy have him as a heisman finalist before tge season started.

I feel so bad for JJ. Dude seems like a good guy, and he waited patiently for two years to take the reigns and be the leader of this team, only for this to happen. Now, it seems like he'll be remembered as one of the biggest busts in college football. I still remember watching him start against Arkansas to begin the season last year, and being really excited about what we had for when Marshall left. I just can't believe this is the same guy this season. Disappointing can't even begin to describe it.

Any clue as to what happened? Were there any signs in scrimmages? Because you're right, he looked awesome last year.

Was listening to SEC channel this morning. They said this could be a tactic to get JJ's ass in gear. Said JJ got too comfortable with his position and that he could be back later.
