Jermod McCoy out with ACL surgery

Some people are confusing the word “repair” with “reconstruction”. 9 times out of 10 an ACL surgery is a reconstruction, meaning you harvest a graft (BTB, quad, hamstring) or use allograft (cadaver) to create a new ACL. In that situation, the grade of ACL injury doesn’t really matter cause you are cutting out the old and putting in something brand new. This is all assuming it’s isolated ACL and there isn’t another ligament, meniscus, cartilage injury.

Young college athlete isn’t getting a “repair” and he isn’t getting an allograft. He’s getting BTB, the tried and true. NFL scouts will penalize him if his ACL is reconstructed with anything else. Quad is awesome and gaining steam, but not regarded enough yet for NFL teams not to prefer BTB.
