I question your "it worked" claim. Other than Tomlin (who Rooney hired) what coaches were hired that wouldn't have been without the Rooney rule? How do you know the rule was the reason? How many AA coaches interviewed simply to comply with the rule? How do you think they feel knowing they are a token interview?
In the case discussed in this thread - why should Jerry Jones have to interview an AA coach when he pegged Garrett as heir-apparent years ago. The guy has been assistant head coach for years. What's the point of forcing JJ to interview an AA candidate when he already knows who he wants to hire?
It's a clumsy way to achieve the goal - a point JTrain made quite clearly.
I say it worked because for over 80 years there were seven minority hires. After Rooney rule there's been seven in seven years. It takes a lot of(?) to say the Rooney rule hasn't worked. If a minority coach thinks they're a token interview they don't have to go. They obviously don't think they are. JJ may already (unfortunately) have his mind made up, but it puts someone's name out there and gives the minority candidate a chance and possibly impresses JJ enough to be a potential candidate next time.
