IMO he is and easily so. Clausen was a good QB on talented teams. If anything those teams back then underachieved a lot based on the talent they had. Dobbs teams overperformed drastically. Clausen won with his team Dobbs often won in spite of the team. I only posted the Offensive players Clausen played with.. the defense was littered with future pro bowlers and NFL starters. Dobbs played in peak SEC...during Clausens time Vandy, UK and USCe were just wins period...During Dobbs time those were bowl teams. Dobbs stats as a QB stand up to anyone else in UT history because people don't look at the big picture. Clausen passed for 2k more yards and threw an extra 22 TD's seems fancy except Dobbs ran for 220 more yards than Clausen and 26 more td's.. so he accounted for more yards and TD's in over 200 less attempts. also Dobbs was slightly more accurate.
Not a knock on Clausen he actually played during an era where we were stacked at talent at every position including QB. Dobbs was not surrounded by the same level of coaching and talent by any means yet he put up arguably better numbers. Clausen played during a period of time where the SEC had more bottom feeder teams reach year. That is no longer true..and was not during Dobbs time teams like missou, vandy, Kentucky, USCe and even ole miss and miss state were no longer gimmes year in year out. UT has had a lot of great QB's but I do not think any dealt with the adversity that Dobbs and JG did by any measure.
Also not saying your opinion is wrong... its valid. I just see things differently? Thats whats great about Volnation.
