This board has a weird hatred for wooden . He wasnt pals with Gilbert. I'm sure he knew, but wasn't an advocate for cheating.

The same people who say calipari is clean blast wooden. A little hypocritical.

Knowing and doing nothing about it isn't the same as cheating? It makes it more noble if someone else is doing your dirtywork?

Not saying it's right. Every coach in major college sports history that has won has a little funny biz going on.

Not sure i would call wooden corrupt.

I don't think Cal is clean, but he also isn't overly pious, and he isn't pretending his success has been a result of ensuring his players can tie their shoes.

Great job in taking one story and embellishing.

Yes, he was corrupt. And before you try to go this route, Rupp was corrupt too.

Having a mobster purchasing your players isn't a 'little funny biz.'

He wasnt having the dude do anything. The guy did it on his own. It's common knowledge wooden hated the guy. He should have stopped it. That's his fault.

Exactly. He allowed a mobster to buy his players, and because of that, he remains a huge fraud and is certainly more corrupt than Tressel was.

Wooden or none of those coaches wood have made it in todays times. They would be busted within 5 years. That's why I respect Bob Knight. He may be an ***hole but it is well documented that he only has had a handful of super talent and he just outcoached everybody. He did this on purpose. So he has integrity.

this is more than a little funny biz. this is a guy who couldn't beat even his fellow pac-8 coaches until he allowed someone to start paying off recruits. check out pete newell's record against wooden. combine this with him consistantly telling the world the "right and honorable" way to do things and we have the biggest hypocrite in sports history.

Unless pics surface of Wooden in the sack with a couple of hookers with whips, chains and a gag-ball in his mouth, he remains untouchable as far as the NCAA is concerned, and ESP-ON hasn't made it a point to really let the younger viewers know just how corrupt UCLA's program was under Wooden.
