-So you know how Urban Meyer never refers to Florida State by name? Always calls ‘em that “school out west.” Well, seems like Jimbo Fisher has taken note. While Fisher was breaking down the schedule during his “State of the Seminoles” address, he finally got to the Florida game at the end of the season. But he didn’t mention Florida as “Florida” or even “the Gators.” No, Fisher called Florida “that little team down the road.” I like it. There’s nothing like subtle jabs at your rival to make things interesting. For the fans. For people like me. This is what this rivalry needs – especially given it has been so lopsided in recent seasons.

-Speaking of that, Jimbo said “things will be different.” It sounded like Jimbo wanted to say more, but he seemed to catch himself midstream, and he thought better of it. I wish he hadn’t.

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher has new name for Florida ? and other nuggets from annual Seminoles football kickoff luncheon – Chopping Block – Seminoles Blog – Orlando Sentinel

this is hilarious seeing as how they havent beat us in 6 or 7 yrs but i respect it they been getting alot of talent and think their ready to actually give us a challange now that tebow's gone(cuz he raped them every yr. with no mercy)and urban has the SOW for FSU which i think is kinda stupid too

It's a great rivalry,,, Bobby and his coaches got old and lost their edge,,, just like the Vols did.

I see FSU going heads up and actually beating the Gators this year,, and then it will be neck and neck for the next few years because the Noles are recruiting as good if not better then the Gators right now and for the next few years anyways. The Gators schedule is getting tougher and tougher and having the Noles back to strength is not helping them at all. Playing Alabama, Georgia, Noles,,, and eventually the Vols getting back up to speed will make it virtually impossible for CUM to stay on top.

FSU is not recruiting better than UF. FSU's recruiting is improving, and the talent gap is closing, but UF has 3 straight stacked recruiting classes and working on another.

That said, I am impressed with FSU's LB and secondary recruiting. Their OL and DL recruiting is marginal at best.

You can't blame them for trying. In fact, you could blame them if they didn't.

Florida State isn't dead, Boi. You know they'll be back along with Miami, and the cycle of Florida powerhouses will continue.

I expect Miami to fall off considerably after this season. They recruited like ass recently....both UF and FSU raided South Florida for some exceptionally talented players.

I also thnk Randy Shannon is in over his head as HC.

The truth is that Bowden came into that program in the 70's and absolutely owned the top talent avenues in South Florida, including especially the Glades. Miami got on the map quickly when they took over the Miami recruiting. UF lagged behind for a decade or so.

Now, UF has its pick of the litter across the state and, in terms of skill players, pretty much everywhere except maybe southern California.

Miami COULD return to prominence if they could ever lock up Miami again. But they haven't and in fact with the exception (notable) of a few of the top players, Miami has been getting blasted by Florida on all fronts.

I think the reality is that FSU is now solidly behind the proverbial 8 ball. The sources of talent for them are dried up and there's no opportunity to show up and take that talent away from Notre Dame or whoever, like Bowden did more than three decades ago. FSU is, for the foreseeable future, simply done. And absent some major shift in things, they will stay in also ran status in perpetuity.

The real problem for both Miami and FSU right now is simple. They are in the ACC. I said when that came up years ago that it was a huge mistake. Now, at the time, I thought it was because the drop off in competition would be so alarming that the polls would inevitably reflect it.

Turns out I was slightly wrong. It isn't that the North Carolinas, Georgia Techs, and Clemsons of the world couldn't rise to the level of FSU and Miami. It is that FSU and Miami actually sunk to ACC mediocrity.

The conference should seriously be told that if it doesn't improve, and by a lot, then their auto bid to a BCS game is in jeopardy. Indeed, for the last 4-5 years the ACC has been embarassingly average.

FSU is hard to predict. No idea how Jimbo Fisher will do, but you'd think that if he can coach at all, he'll have FSU winning 9 games a year.

Talk all you want I say -- as long as you are backing it up on the field. (Steve Spurrier please take note)

I respectfully disagree.

jimbo seems to be collecting skill position talent at an impressive rate (Wilder, Reid, Green, Joyner, etc.)

UF and the rest of the ACC better continue to work hard.

fsu's offense should be dangerous soon, IMO. If he can build any defense, they should be very dangerous.

IMO, you're being a little harsh on the ACC. I believe they are overrated most of the time but Clemson(weasel is doing some impressive recruiting), Miami, fsu, Georgia Tech's offense, UNC's defense could all be a little dangerous at times.

Take UF and the red menace out of the ACC and you have the ACC the last few years.

Yeah, not really. You get maybe one skill player out of state a year.

James Wilder would take exception to this. The fact they are recruiting lights out this year proves the theory above incorrect.

You really can't dispute the quality of UF's out of state recruits.

Meyer has gone a great job cherry picking top prospects outside of Florida.

There's no shortage of skill players in-state down here.

Percy Harvin (VA) and Aaron Hernandez (CT) were pretty good for us.

I mean, yeah, that's good. But you're really getting one out of state skill player a year, at most. Pretty tough to say you've got your pick anywhere you want based on that. It's standard lawgator practice to say something super homerish and then accuse you of being a homer if you disagree.

LG's posts make me pull for FSU even more... or anyone else playing UF for that matter.

What? My standard practice is to tell the truth and then call you an idiot or a liar if you disagree.

Example: have said Meyer is too soft on crime, particularly gun crime. Also have said many times that UF retains some envy of not having real far back tradition, like some of our SEC brethren. Have also said I think we got stale on offense last year. Have said Spurrier did not recruit last three years at UF.

And on and on.

It's not homerism just because it is reality. And reality right now is that Florida has a pretty decent shot at any recruit in the country and FSU is definitely way behind, especially when you consider depth issues.

Whether you like it or don't, I post the true state of affairs on such issues. We don't need any more fans. Perfectly content for you rooting every weekend for Tenessee and FSU. Bascially the same thing as rooting for the Orioles and the Expos.

Blech.
