His agent is a genius. Wow that's alot of money. I always thought his run with Florida St was due to the team's recognition (at the time from Bowden) and being in a weak ACC and the recruiting money flowing from past history. When he started losing 3 games a year and the conference became better I no longer thought he was a good coach. Maybe recruiting will continue to mask his coaching abilities. Maybe you have a different opinion. Either way, Saturday's game was terrible on their end and it doesn't matter because that contract has him set for a long time. It's not like he was going to leave and go elsewhere after bombing his last year at FSU. Crazy they gave him that big of a buyout clause.

He’ll probably bring enough talent in there to win 8-9 games a year but never really challenge for the SEC

I remember people saying the same thing the year before he won the national championship. I wouldn’t count him out of making a run for a title in the next few years.

True but Jimbo basically ran from FSU due to declining results, but was able to leverage that into TA&M thinking they got a top coach.

That's even expensive for Texas oil tycoons.

Some folks on Texags think the BMDs will buy Jimbo out and it almost makes sense. In for a penny in for a pound. They have too much money invested for Jimbo's failures.

He ran from FSU because they didn't give him the blank check he wanted for staff, facilities, etc. after the national championship. If FSU gave him that instead of running him off, I would virtually guarantee they would be in a better place as a program than they are now. When FSU denied him that stuff after the title, he checked out and was still putting up 10-win seasons for a couple years before the bottom fell out.

Jimbo is not a bad coach, but he is an overpaid coach. He's achieved very Kevin Sumlin-like results but makes double what Sumlin made (Jimbo is better in-conference than Sumlin was, but very similar overall record). If Jimbo did not have the national title under his belt and that massive buyout, he'd be on a thermonuclear hot seat.

Just looking at their schedule and dang, it looks a lot tougher than I realized.

Miami this weekend
Arkansas
Mississippi State
Alabama
South Carolina
Mississippi
Florida
Auburn
UMass
LSU

They could easily lose 4 or 5 more games.
If they don’t get it together 4-8 is in the realm of possibility. 6-6 or 7-5 seems likely.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind seeing the Canes beat them badly this weekend and watching their program start to implode.

I’ve never understood the “fired without cause” wording. Coaches are ALWAYS fired with a cause…they suck. Colleges are paying these coaches millions to come in and win. And if they don’t (especially after a few years with no improvement) that seems like “cause” enough to me.

Cause probably has to do with contract language. I have yet to hear of any contract having "must be 8-5, 5-3, minimum, with no FCS losses". So you cant fire them "for cause"/without paying out the contract, for losing too many games.

No coach these days is going to sign something where one bad year gets them fired.

I get that for sure and I also understand these guys are dealing with young adults, so they do need some stability. But a $95 million payday for NOT doing your job is wild to me

Jimbo had one of the best rosters in recent memory the year they won the title at FSU. They were lucky to beat an Auburn team led by Nick Marshall at quarterback and coached by Malzahn.

Basically team with the ball last with enough time to score won that game. Auburn probably would have if they’d had another minute or two.

Ya know, I remember Steve Spurrier say five years is long enough for a coach. At that point it's probably time move on.
I also would not count him out to make a run. But obviously he's underachieving

Texas A&M has the money to buy out Fisher if they decide to go in a different direction at the end of this season.

I thought it was 10 years

They do but $100 million is still a $100 million. Just cause you got it don’t mean you piss it away. Who they gonna get better than Jimbo?

The guy is basically Sumlin (maybe slightly worse) and his offense is nowhere near as entertaining to watch as Sumlin's was. He's old, boring, wears grannie glasses, and wins 8 games a year. If you are going to stagnate, at least make it exciting. Watching Max Johnson and Haynes King is about as fun as watching Crompton pre-Kiffin.
