Jimmy Clausen

Wow, I'd heard he was good, and the best of the three, but that's the first "best prep prospect" hype I''ve heard.

Don't his parents have a condo in Knoxville?

Yep. But his family's relation to Tennessee doesn't mean that Fulmer won't still have to recruit the heck out of him.

Its going to be interesting following his next 2 seasons.
We'll be due another Great QB signing, if things mature?

Hopefully. With that talent, he's going to play ball for whoever he chooses.

But Tennessee should start turning into QBU if we pick him up.

Can you imagine that at one point we will have Ainge, crompton and Jimmy all at once! well that is if Jimmy decides to come here. I have always had great respect for his Brother Casey and thought that he did more for tennessee than what most people give him credit for. Then his brother Rick was great for us last year when he got his chances and should be pretty good this year when he gets playing time. Doesn't rick want to become a coach any how. Wouldn't be a bad start to be qb coach for your little brother.

clausen will be wearing orange and white unless something drastic happens. his dad has been quoted saying that as long as fulmer is at utk, jimmy will be going to school there. my only question, is will his teammate, who is a highly touted rb and the son of an nfl great, come to utk? his dad went to ucla so id figure they will be his leaders, but who knows?

Looks like we are going to be covered up with quarterbacks for awhile, a nice situation to be in.

Maybe. "The LeBron James of high school football" can pretty much just waltz on to whatever team he feels like. And just because his dad says he is playing at UT doesn't make it true. If he commits after his junior season, I will be happy. But Fulmer's still gonna have to recruit this kid hard.

Too bad USC doesn't suck anymore like they did when Casey came out of high school ranked as a top 10 QB; it's got to be between us and them.

Sure hope Rick becomes a coaching assistant so we can pull in Jimmy like Jeff Brohm pulled in Brian at Louisville.

TN is in a great position for Jimmy, especially if Rick stays on to coach at TN..BUT!..when the whole world thinks your the best and the whole world wants you, who knows what could happen. If Jimmy is of the independent sort and wants to make his own way, he may shun the comforts of the familiarity that TN would offer. Competetors will definitly try to strike that chord with him. Obviously, Rick being a part of his development would do the most for Jimmy and Rick's career. We may see USC trying to offer Rick a coaching position before it's over with. We can only hope that the loyaties that have developed over the years remain tight. I'm just glad thast Norm Chow is no longer with USC and hopefully between now and decision time USC will have fallen from it's overhyped position. Things are developing for TN that could create a perfectly timed situation to get Jimmy. We just signed the best class in the nation. If we end up in the top two or three this year, we could put together another banner recruiting year next year and then with Jimmy coming in the following year, he himself could probably pull in the best class any school has ever had and who knows, maybe TN will be the first school to THREEPEAT instead of USC.

USC may not be national championship-caliber at the end of the 2006 season, but you can count on them still being a major player on the national scene.

Anyhow, just about every school in the country will be recruiting Jimmy as if whoever he goes to will not lose a game during his eligibility. It will be a battle. Fulmer is going to pull of a recuiting miracle, and I can guarantee you the day when everybody figures out where his LOI is going will be huge. Fulmer's gonna have to pull out the big recruiting guns.

The one great draw I know of that I haven't seen mentioned is another family tie that some may not know about.

Jimmy has a sister who he is extremely close to as I understand it.

Guess where she is going to college?

Yeah! On the HILL.

I really like our chances. I do hope Rick gets to stay on as a coach in some capacity if that's where his heart is. I do believe he has the talent to play either in NFL Europe, Arena or Canadian league. So coaching may wait for a while.

The UT/Clausen arrangement has been very good. I think Phil provides a lot of security for parents. He's the kind of guy parents feel comfortable giving their sons to for 4 y ears.

I believe we get Jimmy. It's not like he'll be in Casey's shadow. He'll likely even compete to break Peyton's records. Now that's a huge challenge and recruiting angle.

He's not even a junior in high school yet and he's already halfway out of Casey's shadow.

If we get him, UT secures its status as QBU. A feature I've noticed has been missing from a lot of programs in the eastern United States the last couple years. It's a great edge to have.

I don't see it to be that big of a deal. I think that UT lands Jimmy.......easy.

Excellent points milo,

Imagine the recruiting angle our coaches have when recruiting QBs these days: Heath Shuler, #2 pick in the NFL draft overall, Peyton Manning #1 pickn in the NFL draft, Tee Martin, drafted and played NFL Europe and still playing pro ball, Casey Clausen, still playing pro ball .......

Name another college whose last 4 QBs are still on a pro roster of any kind. Of course, Shuler's career ended with injuries, but the signing bonus is still collecting enough interest for him to make a run at the house of representatives from NC.

No other college can even come close to comparing in QB success in the last 15 years.

MILO and OldVol agree ........... stop the presses.

Well, I'm just saying that the Pac-10's QB development is happening at a very high level right now. Tennessee has the distinct advantage of being the only school in the eastern US which has a reputation for QB development.

Oh oh, it looks like Milo's hedging a little.

We may not be in as much agreement as I thought.

While he's right that there've been some nice picks from the west, the eastern side of the Grand daddy of all rivers haven't exactly come up short. The manning boys were taken first in 98 and 03.

Michael Vick was first pick in 01, from VT.

Chad Pennington was first in 2000 from Marshall in West Virginia.

Then in 99 Tim, Couch from Kentucky, Donavan McNabb from Syracuse and finally Akili Smith from Oregon were taken 1-2 and 3.

97 it was Jim Druckkenmiller from Virgina Tech.

96 it was Tony Banks from Michigan and I'm thinking they're East of the big muddy.

95 it was Steve (can't break me) McNair from Alcorn St. in Mississippi.

94 Heath Shuler was the first QB taken.

93 Ok, looky here, a Westerner, Drew Bledsoe from Washington St.

The West had the first pick in 02 and 03 as well as 05, so as of late they've not done bad. But if you go look at the first 4 QBs taken in each of the last 10 drafts you'll see that the eastern part of the country and the southeast in particular have dominated the drafts as far as qbs are concerned.

BTW, Since David Cutcliff calls knoxville his home and since he admits he may be better suited as an Assistant Coach, I wonder if the odds would be too astronomical that he could come back to TN as QB Coach and develop C-3 into another #1 draft pick. I wonder if he could submit to being under Sanders. Then you could rest assured that TN would be Quarterback U Milo.
