OrangeWhiteBlood, I feel your frustration, but let me say hello, as I am also currently a Virginian (by residence)...Richmond here.

luck is a very objective term.  Turnovers aren't bad luck, they're usually carelessness and lack of focus.  Putting your helmet to the ball and knocking it out isn't good luck, it's aggressive play.  And giving up the long ball to Bama at the end wasn't bad luck, it was failure to cover as well as we could've.  Turnovers aren't bad luck.  Penalties aren't bad luck.  Dropped balls aren't bad luck.  Blocked field goals aren't bad luck.  Consistently running draw plays on third and long when it seldom works isn't bad luck;  my point is that there are fixable things to contribute all of this to, and they aren't getting fixed.  You have to start to look at those responsible for calling the plays and teaching the players not to do those things so frequently...yes, I think it's time for a change, but not necessarily at Fulmer's position.  Say what you like, but his win percentage puts him with the elite in college ball.  Randy Sanders is a cog in the wheel, IMO.  I hope to see a change before next year.

Yeah, all that may be true. But don't you find from year to year that certain teams just keep getting the big breaks whereas others seem doomed to have them go the other way? Maybe its the hype of the media covering it year in and year out, but to me it does seem that way. Always one or two teams out there that can't seem to help but lose and some that constantly fall back-asswards into a W. Witness USC last weekend.

I agree with the old proverb that providence favors the prepared (i.e. you make your own luck), but over the course of an entire season it just seems like some teams have it, some don't.

Sure does seem that way, doesn't it LG?...I couldn't agree more...but if luck is a real phenomenon, it comes and goes with dynasties. I'm like everyone else I guess...I'm ready for my team's dynasty...or at least another title.

VERY difficult to get that going these days. Obviously USC has it right now. Before that, probably have to talk in terms of Nebraska, Miami of the 80's, teams like that. These days champions come and go, never stick around. Everyone so mobile these days, including coaches.

And don't get me started on college basketball and the way that early leaving for the NBA is dumbing it down to the level of college baseball!!

:dunno: Surprisingly, I'm not as depressed as I thought I would be if we dropped this one. I'm more confused than anything else, kinda like the little kid that dropped his gum in the chicken house. The longer I watched, the more I couldn't believe all the crazy things were actually happening! This crap only happens in high school or the NFL. Fumbles inside the 10 yard line, bonehead penalties, wasting timeouts, continuing special teams mistakes, giving up a big play at the worst time. Don't get me wrong, I think the defense was spectacular today.........until the last 4 minutes. They really worked Croyle over.

Objectively speaking, The Vols should have won this one by three touchdowns. After what I saw today, you'll never convince me Bama is a top 5 team. If they are, there are some real duds in the top ten. Wonder how they would fare against say Texas or USC?

Smoked. I think USC is just too mature, too athletic, and too good for anyone else right now.

Odd as this seems:  thanks to the Gator fan for his sympathy.  This was the most painful loss I've ever witnessed as a Vol fan.  Holding a hungry Alabama team to SIX POINTS at home. . . .and losing.

Funny how much the Bama year is resembling our '98 run, eh?

Here it is Sat @7pm...And Im avoiding sports like the plague now. The Vols and the Phins both lost already, Im bummin so I wont post anymore tonight for fear my neg vibes will come out in em...im out

I don't agree that the fumbles are due to coaching- since Taylor is tied with Chavis for best thing about our coaching staff. Sometimes kids just get into the game, stop thinking, and act like idiots.....

Damn THIS REALLY HURTS ..... UH ... I CAN'T BELIVE i AM SAYING THIS!!!

Here goes...

RUN THE TABLE TIDE!!!! That team has NO QUIT and has a legitimate shot at the big game.

Without Shockley I think GA is going down next week your the last shot at a SEC National Champ.

VT still has two mega tough games. And well I am still betting on Texas Choking against someone. Dig in your heals and go for it.

Classy

I got to say, I'm amazed, I came on here planning to register and start some thread basically saying hahaha. But I've been impressed cause there are a good bit of people on here who seem like good people

That's surprising to me cause I always just thought of the Vols and their fans as just pure evil. Don't know why, but even when we were in the midst of our winning streak I hated the Vols. More than Auburn, much more. Haha Auburn just lost, Ok I hate them but not like the Vols

But onto the game, I gotta disagree with the person who said that the Vols should have won by 3 touchdowns. I say that cause Brodie, who's usually incredibly accurate on long passes, just flat out missed two wide open receivers, Brown in the end zone and Hall on the deep post, two easy touchdowns, totally wide open. He's made those passes all year and just missed them today. And I don't agree that we got the best of the reffing, there's no halo rule and the refs screwed us on the spot right before our first field goal.

But we might have stolen it, but that's allright cause y'all stole it from us two years ago. I mean 4th and 18, I still think about that.

Maybe we are a team of destiny this year, although this is the only game we really got breaks in, but without Prothro our offense has sunk and I'm not sure about our chances versus a USC. Maybe if we play like we did against Florida, but that was with Prothro.

But ya'll have a great defense. Is your defensive line that good or is our offensive line that bad?

Welcome to the board. Thanks for being levelheaded.

I really think our d-line is just that good. You are right about the deep balls that Croyle missed, but ultimately this game was going to be won by whoever got/created a break at the end. The break went your way and you guys capitalized.

Congratulations

Wow, thanks. This does remind me a lot of '92 when every weekend we were on the verge of losing and Miami was whipping the tar out of everyone. We need some other teams to lose but I sure would like a shot at USC. I don't think they have seen a defense as stifling as Bama's or Tenn's!

Nice post. Please don't take this the wrong way but I live in Bham and I'm amazed at some of preconceptions that Alabama fans have about UT fans and UT. Some of what I hear blows me away.

Great game today - congrats on the win.

The funny thing about me hating the Vols is that my dad is a huge Vols fan, he's from up North and started liking them cause they were one of the last teams to run the single wing.

I can't say that Tennesse's recent winning streak hasn't added to it but for some reason I never liked them, always were my most hated rival. But in a way it's a form of respect, I mean I could care less about a team like Vanderbilt.

But my opinion of their fans has increased today.

But good game, damn good defense on both sides and I hope we improve with our two gimmes in the next few weeks and then take out LSU and Auburn.

And then who knows, like the other guy on here said, it's not like we were blowing people out in 92 either. USC's pretty strong though.

I think Bama and Vol fans recognize and respect what an unbelievable game that was today. It was probably good that they played a game like that so that the focus was back on the field where it belongs.

Yep.

I'm going to be first on record predicting we start the next streak in about 360 days or so.

Our Front Four turned it up a few ticks today. That being said, I can't believe Bama didn't go shotgun/max-protect on 3rd & long. They were sending out 4 wide and UT's DL & LB's were teeing-off on Croyle's neckbone. You'd think, after the first four sacks, they'd figure out that that won't work. I mean, that's insane....that'd be like throwing a 5-yard route on 3rd & 8 all the time. Whoops....I guess both teams are guilty of :banghead:

I thought the same thing

Although, we probably would have needed to put two tight ends in on max protect just to block the defensive ends

I love my team but did Kyle Tatum block anybody all day?

Parys Harralson just slapped him around all day.
