JJJ ever going to be right?

what exactly is his injury that isn't healing properly to allow him to play and compete?

What he’s saying is that, that was something he had not been doing so it’s a sign of a step in the right direction.
If he does come back soon, I hope it at home against a team like Vandy so the team chemistry can get established. I would hate for him to have to come back against a team like Kentucky or @Miss State or @lsu

You don’t have to tell me what he’s saying. I already know what he’s saying. For your information, what I’m saying is this has nothing to do with his improved chances of playing.

JJJ = no help this year.
Don't mean this to be dismissive or divisive but I really think the presence of JJJ on the bench IS a help to us. The level of respect he has from the other players and CLEARLY the level of trust from Coach Barnes IMO helps this team stay in their "lanes". I know for certain Rick regularly discusses things with JJJ that he doesn't necessarily share with the team. They have that type of relationship.

I think coach needs to plan the SEC season as if JJJ is not coming back.
He is very valuable as an on bench "coach", but the progress of Mashack , Awaka, and Aidoo have more than compensated for the lack of playing time for JJJ.

My biggest disappointment for the year is the regression of Key and Plav.

I can't say Key regressed. He's never played at this level and is coming off sitting out a year. I guess maybe we all had hopes he could be a veteran scorer but as we see with Pember, playing at this level and scoring is a lot different than in one bid type leagues.

When a player does not dress or warm up, its safe to assume there's no chance he is playing and is not ready to even consider it.

When a player warms up and is dressed out, it is safe to assume the player is ready if need be and is well on the way to being recovered from his injury.

Common sense.

I hope JJJ comes back soon and the Vols go on a rampage!

Likely does, but if it doesn't, it is a step toward getting well.

I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV… The situation with JJJ, is that his cleanup procedure did not rectify the problems in his knee. When he plays or practices, he has more pain, stiffness and inflammation. He’ll need another (beyond a cleanup) surgery. Doing that now, would require months of recovery. He’s chosen to delay that surgery in hopes he can play. So far, there’s been no indication that there is a trend of recovery. He practices, his knee gets stiff and sore. That could miraculously change, but there’s no current trend in that direction. I would not read him warming up as an indication that he’ll play soon. I’d love to be wrong. Unlike others, I think he’s our best player, and thought his offensive aggression was trending in a very positive direction last year. He may be the best defensive 3-4 in the country, but I think his offense is also an important missing piece right now. Hope he can return.

It‘s common sense that unless you have intimate knowledge of the situation, you really don‘t have a clue about what’s going on.

Do you have some intimate knowledge? If so, kindly share it with the rest of us.

And you don't need intimate knowledge to know that what I wrote is true.

Unless CRB is trying to make people guess, which is a possibility, it is safe to assume that JJJ is making progress. Otherwise JJJ would be in street clothes on the bench.

Go Vols!

@Stoerner Fumbles above account is pretty spot on and explains it well

I agree that, when healthy, JJJ is our most important player. I posted this previously in another thread but thought it is worth revisiting...here is a comparison of JJJ, SV, and ZZ over the last 15 games we played in the '21 season including the SEC and NCAA tourneys :

Note: the "1st/2nd" column indicates how many times during the 15 games they were either 1st or 2nd in that statistical category compared to the rest of the team (I excluded anyone who had less than 10 minutes of playing time).

As you can see, JJJ ranked #1 in 5 of the 6 categories. If you add JJJ's intangibles as a leader, you have a very compelling case for him as our most important player imo.
