The way he torched Clemson means more to me than anything. They talked smack from the time the game was announced here in Upstate SC. All we heard was “Cade” this and “Cade” that. Dabo made smug remarks here and there, but had that “we are gonna roast em” smirk during his interviews. The low-rate Clemson homer radio station DJs ran their yaps every time I switched over to listen. Nobody gave poor Tennessee a chance against the mighty Tigers of the ACC.
This was their shot to show they belonged and had not caught lightning in a bottle in a weak conference.
Well, Dabo got his comeuppance.
The fans were crying in the stands.
All the frat boys with their wop hairdos and their drunk dates were standing there with their mouths open in bewilderment as Joe dropped dimes on the field and the Volunteer defense steadily turned Klubnik’s uniform from white to green and his parents could only sit there.
I turned on the radio station and they were talking about most everything but the game.
The Vols would go on to break Clemson’s hearts in softball and baseball in 2023 in front of everybody.
I’m sure it meant a lot to Vol fans everywhere, but when you have to live in Upstate SC and hear and see what I have to put up with, it was absolutely glorious.
And Joe started it all, going out there and picking up where Hooker left off.
Thank you, #7
I wish you nothing but the best.
Godspeed
