Joe Milton - Second-Year Surge

Loses the ability to process when he gets in the game, particularly in adverse situations.

Lacks just general awareness that a QB needs (touch, the wherewithal to know when to scramble, etc)

He's soft.

I'm afraid he may lack some guts also.

I'm ok if he spells HH for a play or two if he gets dinged, but there's no way JM is a guy that will lead us to where we want to be. Tayven or Nico are up next.

Milton just needs to be the first to get off the bus on away trips to scare the opposing team.
I know you're a keen observer and all but

No he never had an issue processing what he was seeing. He understands the offense very well and reads the defense just as good as Hooker.

He lacked the touch on deep passes for the first time in his career. Has had a problem with accuracy. Heupel fixed the short and immediate issues. He had some jitters or something, which is concerning. But he hits deep balls in practice. In scrimmages and he hit the last deep ball he threw against UGA.

Idk the out of bounds play was one bonehead play. Maybe lacks guts, maybe kinds dumb, idk, but he had absolutely no chance of scoring on that run and maybe didn't know the time left?

Either way there are two different types of Vol fans.

Those that think Joe Milton could be good and those that are so jaded by JG that they are overly willing to write Milton off after one and a half games in orange.

It's easy to be cynical and just assume he can't possibly be good no matter what, but our coaches are great at developing QB's and Joe has had an incredible attitude, is a team player, bleeds orange and has all the talent in the world. He will have another chance to prove himself and he's more than capable of doing so.

yes
Milton threw it the only place he could throw it on that play, but the receiver just could not get that high. Exhaustion, I'm sure.
Yeah after my post I went back and watched that play again. I agree that Joe delivered the ball the only place he could. However it wasn't quite as catchable as I had remembered. Tillman would've had to extend pretty far to get his hands on it. He tried but it was just out of his reach. Not saying it was impossible for him to go up and grab it but it certainly wasnt as easy as it looked to me when watching the first time.

My other take is that Milton isn't the melon head some of you folks assume he is. So as fishy as it may sound (;)), until it's proven otherwise, I believe the Milt Man will deliver.

Agreed..

Especially on the two kind of Vols fan.

One group needs someone to be their goat. It foesnt matter whether its a player or a coach as long as they have someone to belittle and demean.

Coach Johnny Majors' Legions of the Miserable..and they will turn on CJH eventually. As soon as a weakness is exposed...he will be talked about the in the same manner most if not all former coaches are by this group.

For now they're content to feast on Milton's mistakes and that seems to satisfy their appetite for tearing Vol players amd coaches down. But when things go wrong...all Vol players and coaches who make a mistake are fair game.

The second group...just normal people.

That 1994 season could have been special. Instead, Colquitt got hurt and we started 1-3 trying to figure out the QB situation with Helton, Manning, and Stewart. By season’s end, Manning was coming along, but the meaningful games had been played. With Colquitt, that team beats UCLA, Mississippi State, and Alabama…and has a real shot to beat Florida in Knoxville. Just a devastating injury.

MANNING would have beaten Alabama (and went 4-0 vs them) IF the receiver had caught a sure Touchdown pass in the end zone on Tennessee's final drive. The slant pattern was perfectly thrown..........
