A UK alum who is a UT fan? What happened? You were there during the return to the glory years. :dunno:

He was a prof at uk.

I was a grad student there from 90-93 right when Pitino came there (I started during his second year).

I was a grad teaching assistant while getting my degree and that's when I had John (the year after the Duke loss).

I had been converted to a UK fan during Pitino and Tubby's time there but I find myself pulling against the current squad. I still pull for their football unless they are playing the Vols.

1998 was a good year for me - basketball and football natty's from my alma maters.

Yep, and an awfully impressive coaching tree. After seeing guys like Tubby Smith, Herb Sendek, Billy Donovan, and Jeff Van Gundy go on to impressive careers after working with Pitino, I can see why a not-so-basketball-savvy Athletic Director would give Pelphrey a shot, expecting to get similar results.

It might make a difference that those other guys actually coached under Pitino, instead of having just played for him.

Of course...I was just pointing to the success of the Pitino lineage. Pelphrey played under Pitino, and coached with Donovan, so I'm sure the "tree" was likely the most attractive factor in his candidacy.
