Johnathan Crompton as QB?

Ainge will start and Crompton will sit and learn. What a novel concept right?

Ainge will have his time and Crompton will get his.

Which ever player responds the best to DC in spring will get the chance to start in the Fall. My guess it will be EA if he can get his head on straight.

It's the stuff that Phil sprinkles on things to make them better.

Surely you don't think that he got his record actually coaching do you?

Aing had his time this year. This was the result.

PASSING..............Effic...........Pct
Rick Clausen.........119.06.......57.4
Erik Ainge...............89.94.......45.5

He isnt good enough to be ranked in the top 200 QB's in the NCAA this year.

How can we expect to have a top 20 team with a QB that isnt in the top 200? I dont think its realistic to expect him to be a totally different QB next year then this year. Better yes.

Crompton will need to complete 50% of his passes to do a better job then Ainge get this year. Thats not asking a lot.

has anyone heard if johnathan crompton is gonna start at qb next season or do you think phil will stick ainge in for the "experience" factor?

You're kidding, right? There has been no competition between the 2 yet. Spring practice and pre-season practice is when that will be decided. This has not nor will it be announced for about 9 months.

I honestly don't care who starts as long as they win. I believe the Cut can help ainge with his mechanics and get his head on straight. That said, if he doesn't, Maybe Crompton or Cooter can get up to speed.

Thank you. I thank that is the way he looked after the field goal miss against UT to tie the game in our N/C season or when UT beat them at the swamp or probably both.

I would have to say start ainge only, don't need any more QB conterversy, Crompton red shirted last year so he will have 4 more yrs left. So he will be a JR when he is ready.

Oh, great theory...don't put the best players on the field, give everyone their shot...what is this, little league baseball??? Start the best guy, and stick with him. If Crompton proves to be the better QB I would much rather have 4 years of Crompton, than 2 more of Ainge and then 2 of Crompton.

Statistically speaking, what if Ainge put up Heisman numbers and Crompton put up 2 years of Heisman numbers or Crompton put up 2 years of LL numbers then 2 years of Heisman numbers.

Would you still want Mustain?

Statistically yours,

No doubt that Ainge starts the season as starting QB. Crompton has no experience and is coming off shoulder surgery. Everyone seems to forget that Ainge played extremely well his Freshman year, and we were all excited about him having a great year this year, but unfortunately that didn't happen. The kid was coming back from a injury, and I think that affected him mentally. It often looked like a lot of times he just threw the ball up for grabs because he didn't want to get hit.

Cutcliffe will streighten Ainge out. EA will bounce back and have a great season next year.

Some of you guys seem to have a lot of faith in a freshman QB who has yet to throw a pass while wearing a UT Jersey (Orange, White, or Green), Crompton will eventually get his opportunity, but it will be after Ainge leaves.

Heaven help us if the Tennessee coaches decided to develop a quarterback from the redshirt season up.

It is great when the answers are so simple.

Revert to your adolescence.

I don't think anyone can realistically determine who should be the starting QB for the Vols next year. Even those (most of us) who want him named as early as possible know that it must be at least the end of Spring practice and probably early in the fall practices before we will know. Most would think it would be Ainge with his two years learning the system but then we look back on his regression. Others say Cutcliffe will fix Ainge's problems. That is also an unknown factor. Crompton has undoubtedly absorbed a lot watching and learning this year. He may be the best red shirt freshman in the history of college football.... and he may not .... the bottom line is: They must get on the practice field and show what they can do. No one thought Clausen would beat Ainge out...... but he did.... and I think Crompton is a lot better than Clausen. I am not saying Crompton will be out Ainge either..... but..... I think he will. The cream will rise this spring and fall and should enter the opening game with the QB in place, whichever one he is.

Tonight on the O'reilly Factor:

Does Erik Ainge have an unknown factor?

No one knows how he will respond to proper discipline and coaching.

Was Erik Ainge the best freshman quarterback in the history of college football?

Was Randy Sanders the cause for Ainge's downfall?

Will Erik Ainge be the most improved player in College Football?

Next the most ridiculous item and your mail.

That has been done twice already with a true freshman QB, Manning and C. Clausen both started as true freshman, and had winning seasons. Ainge played well as a freshman before being injured.

Crompton will be a red shirt freshman and will have studied the offense for already a year. Ainge will have to prove he can outplay Crompton, he wont get the starting job simply because he knows the offense better.

Ainge has lost some faith in the coaching staff last year, thats why he got benched for R Clausen several times. Crompton on the other hand doesnt carry that baggage going in.

The problem with all of this is that injury aside, Crompton has never taken a College snap. There is know way to determine who will be the man until they have a chance to get on the field and work it out. There are plenty of "can't miss" recruits every year that never work out so until Crompton gets on the field there is no discussion IMO.

Come on, you think that start redshirt freshman and or freshman is the ideal situation?

You chose two quarterbacks which can be argued were the two best quarterbacks in Tennessee history.

Judge by the entire history of the Volunteer program and not 8 years.

*Yes we can start a huge argument over playing younger players to gain experience and what not.*

Ainge doesn't even rank in the top 200 qb's in the NCAA this year, and thats who you want as your starting QB???

Crompton was a no.2 qb prospect out of high school, do you really believe he cant do better then that? The last couple of QB prospects UT had who were ranked that highly in high school, was a guy named Manning and a guy named Shuler.
