``I was around him since he took the Tennessee job. I watched practice, talked to the
squad a couple of times, and spent some time in his office. And I believe he is a very good football coach. He's very aggressive and well organized. He's demanding and he and his staff attacked recruiting very aggressively. I think he is going to be very, very successful in
the long run.''

Have a friend who will be playing golf with Johnny this weekend. Will ask him about the conversation next week.

Honestly, I'd agree with that assertion.

If Kiffin outlasts the sanctions and rebuilds... he'll be successful. In the next 5-6 years? Probably not so much. Definitely not to the level USC was in a far weakers PAC-10.

Lane needs to make the USC thing work.

Justified or not, he's become a PR nightmare for any organization he's involved with. Regardless of his coaching ability, there may not be many teams willing to deal with the media circus associated with Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin has no association with the Vols anymore. Why on earth is this ridiculous thread still up? Milo, I thought you were gonna rid us of all the Kiffin sissy LA boy stuff. Droski are you trolling now for attention?

This, of course, is assuming he continues making headlines for all the wrong reasons over the next few years.

If the off-field stories die down, so too will the concerns associated with having him as a head coach.

i'm just trying to keep the post count up on this site. i do find it humerous that 90% of the site would have agreed with johnny a year ago, but that isn't really relavant to today i suppose. and yes I suppose i was trolling. on the other hand, i do think people here would be interested in the quote.

You overlook the Johnny Majors angle to the story? I'd say that ties it into UT a little bit.

At 1 time 90% of us would've liked this, the only criticism would've been it came from Johnny. I've been wrong many times here been right a few times. Please allow that most of Johnny's quote here is him being aware he's being quoted...ask him about LK now.

As young as he is, if he doesn't change his ways he will not be very successful. Unless he want's to be known as the greatest jerk who ever lived!

Clearly the jerk status isn't a big problem for him. And being a jerk and being successful are certainly not mutually exclusive.

All you Kiffin lovers----get over it. He is not here anymore!!!! for goodness sakes. I suppose Johnny wanted to say some good things about the Vol coach. Johnny thought he would be very very successful. Welllll!!!!. Johnny is not a good prognosticator, is he? I'll bet Johnny has some good things to say about DD, but you wouldn't want to talk about that, would you?

Um, I believe Kiffin just left one major college football program for another one with a big fat raise to go along with it.

I still think he's going to be a good coach. I've really not heard anyone who has worked with him say anything different from a recruiting and X's and O's standpoint. Most say he's quite competent at both.

However, he could probably afford an investment in a PR coach. It might be worth an hour or two a week now in the long term.

Johnny Majors needs to have another drink considering he was 4-12 against alabama. If he would have stayed on his medical leave in 92 we would have been a better team. His selfish pride cost him his job not Fulmer.:banghead2:

Yeah, Fulmer would have been super eager to relinquish his post had Majors stayed gone the whole season.

You defending Majors? That selfish bastage?

Rather than sitting at home on his arse, he got up and went back to work. All about "me," that guy.

Tomorrow, I'm going to do the noble thing, consider others, and just stay home in bed all day. Not even going to notify my coworkers. They'll probably honor me with a plaque commemorating my selflessness.

Imagine if Dooley gets fired in 4 years for sucking & Kiffin gets canned for never getting over the hump and winning the Pac-12 & USC finds somebody else. If Kiffin is the best man out there for the job would Vol fans welcome him back after 4 years of record breaking suckitude from DD?
