Johnson Wins Nextel Cup

I turned the TV off with approximately 30 laps to go.

Fine season, no matter what you think about him. Daytona 500, Brickyard 400, and the Championship.

But, whatever.

after going to Talladega and Indy, watching the Dayton 500 from Hooters ($75 tab), and wasting today watching the race, i feel that NASCAR owes me something for allowing JJ to be the champ.

i'm ready for next year.

Congrats to Jimmie, Lowe's and Hendrick MotorSports!:salute:
We went to two races this year, Poconos in June and Charlotte in October. We're big NASCAR fans at our house-my wife is a Ryan Newman fan, my daughter a Dale Jr fan and I'm a Jeff Gordon fan. Prior to being a Gordon fan I was a fan of Richard Petty and Glenn "Fireball" Roberts.
I had Greg picked in my top 5. He's now won the last 3 at Homestead.
Again congrats to Jimmie Johnson. He came back after having two bad races in starting the CHASE.

NASCAR is equal to basketball, baseball, and soccer on my long list of crappy sports... but I had to pick someone to root for. So I've been a JJ fan since the beginning. Pretty sure it's because we share last names...

Edit: And initials...

That sucked.....I was hoping that if we was going to win the Championship that Jr. would at least win and take my focus off of him winning the Cup but I wasn't that lucky

Typical day for the 8 car... it's a rocket when the sun was out, then when the sun goes down the car goes away. They have close to zero idea how to adjust a car later in a race.

I agree.......Also had some bad pit stops that kept him from staying out front for a little longer than what he was.....Oh well, maybe with him stepping up their Downforce program they will be more of a contender next year than they were this year.....I'm hoping so anyway because he had a shot in this Chase until Talladega....Oh well, we only have to wait a few more months until it fires up again

and yet they were still in the championship hunt this year, down to the last race. i was much impressed with the 8 team this year. with Truex finally having a clue and their addition of a 3rd car to DEI, i think the team will have a real push next year for a Cup. DEI was essentially a one car team this year.

however, i think my my favorite for next year, right now, is Kasey Kahne. not a huge fan of his, but he is fast.

i think the rules and point changes (which will come after this year) will benefit the guys who can win the races instead of the guys who just drive around in circles all day.

that said, the COT debuts next year as well, and it remains to be seen which teams will have figured out how to build, race, and tune them. also, the addition of Toyota makes for more competition and more cars trying to get one of the 43 spots. i think there's going be some big names watching the race from their motorhomes next year.

i am ready for Daytona! 90 days.

I see no reason why the #48 won't repeat. They're over that hump now, and their equipment isn't going to weaken.

I dunno if Kahne or that team is consistent enough yet to really make a run at the championship.

I'll be interested to see if RCR can maintain their level of success they had this year.

I dunno about TEI, I still think it's pretty much a one car team. What can you possibly gain from having teammates like Truex and Menard?

"I turned the TV off with approximately 30 laps to go."

As did I. I just do not care for "The Chase".

I don't mind the Chase, it's Jimmie Johnson and Bill "OMXG JimmieJo just escaped death as the car spun behind him!" Weber that I can't stomach.

it's so hard to go back to back in this day of NASCAR and adding Toyota to mix is only going to make it tougher.

the point with Truex is it appears that he actually has clue about what he's doing. he's beginning to show signs of being a decent racecar driver.

and the Chase wouldn't even be here if NASCAR had set the points up a long time ago to reward guys for winning races.

I don't think a different points system geared towards winning would've made a difference in 2003, the year that caused the Chase. Kenseth led for much of that year by 2 or 300 points. Unless they got like 50% more point for 1st, it really wouldn't have mattered...

I think there is a lot that you can gain from Truex....I don't know so much about Menard, he didn't make many of the races he tried to enter did he? Truex might actually be a good teammate to Dale Jr......anybody really beats Michael Waltrip

i'm not really sure how you can say that when DEI and Waltrip enjoyed their most success so far, together. 2004 was their best year, as a team.

granted all of Waltrip's wins came on a plate track, they were a better team.

Eury has the 8 back on the right track. they'll be ok.

I say that because of the fact that you pointed out....Michael couldn't win anywhere but a plate track...I know for a long time that's the only races Jr. was considered a competitor in but he won 5 races that year....Richmond, Bristol night race, Talladega, Daytona, and Phoenix.....Mikey just won the Fall 'Dega race that year

I definitely think next year you could consider Jr. a contender for the Championship though

Waltrip didn't do jack in 2004. He did win at Daytona and Talladega in 2003, though.

Jr. had those wins you mentioned, as well as the Atlanta Spring race giving him 6 for 2004. The worst thing TEI ever did was splitting up Eury and Jr. after their BEST year together. Completely assinine. I know it might've been a mutual decision between everything involved, but you've got to have some sort of leadership there to say, "Look, you just won 6 races, you can suck it up and work together."

Thanks for pointing that one out....I thought there might have been one more but I couldn't remember......I do agree with you though, that was completely retarded to split that team after that year......He had a career year, and the next year he didn't even make the Chase

All that being said, I definitely think that you can consider Jr. a competitor for the Nextel Cup next year.....Sure, he didn't win many races this year but he was consistent for the most part.....With the advances he made on the downforce tracks this year, they're getting their plate program back on track, and he's always been a good short track driver....You got to watch otu for the 8 car in 2007
