Jon Embree

Embree had to be one of the poorer coaching hires of the last several years. He was never a coordinator or head coach before and was, as I recall, wide receiver coach for either Carolina or Jacksonville. This at a time when Colorado was headed to the Pac-12. He did intimate that black coaches don't get second chances and what can be regarded as a very early terminaton at Colorado would kill his chances for a second head coaching job. But certainly he has to realize that when you are one of the five worst teams in the FBS division, someone is going to pay regardless of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, etc. . . .

I agree. The guy said because he was black he wouldn't get a 2nd chance to be a head coach. The clowns on espn were doing their usual racism bit.

Embree "Is it because I am black?"

AD's anywhere "Hell no; its because you are terrible!" <--apply Sam Jackson voice to that quote.

Ok enough is enough. I let this go on for too long. I'm black and I take offense to this. Mods can we please delete this.

Prime example. Racism goes both ways. Because you're black doesn't make you exempt because your ancestors were oppressed.

Look man I agree with you about Embree. He was defiantly fired because he was a horrible coach not because he was black. The Obama comment you made was so ignorant and stupid. It just didn't need to be said. You also can't say that black people still don't get their respect every once in a while. Look at the Trayvon Martin case. How would you feel if you were black and you had to tell your son that people will be afraid of him the rest of his life? Its hard being black you just don't understand.

Govols, They raised a valid point on ESPN with their piece on black coaches and how only 1 has ever gotten another job after being fired.

ESPN wasn't saying that he was a good coach rather they were discussing the valid issue he raised about black coaches.

It sounds to me like you heard what you wanted to from that piece and you are coming off as prejudice (hope that it's just poor wording on your part).

If we don't give him a 2nd chance it's because he's black & not his abysmal coaching record. So sick of this. The damn president is black let it go.

Thank you for posting this. I wanted to literally dive through the television screen at Stephen A. Smith when I listened to him this morning. He's the most racist out of all. Give me a freaking break. Embree sucked hard (4-21, no home wins in 3 years, etc..) so he was fired. No knock on race in the situation. That clown needs to get off of TV anyway, just because you yell out unimportant and unintelligent facts does not make you a good a TV personality.

It's not a valid point. If your résumé sucks you don't get a job. You shouldn't get a job. I'm all for diversity but not just for the sake of being diverse. Affirmative action, Rooney rules, etc are what keep driving racism.

I watched the presser and took this a bit different. He acknowledged the record wasn't there and took responsibility for it. He suggested that 2 years wasn't really a fair assessment on a rebuilding program, especially one where he was trying to be above board on everything and not cheat to win. But, he acknowledged in today's climate that he didn't show enough improvement to be kept on.

The comments regarding race came after a reporter asked if it had anything to do with his firing. He said it did not, but that he felt that there was less patience for minorities and if they failed in one place it was unlikely they would get hired somewhere else. He implied that wasn't the case with other coaches. Who knows if it is indeed true, but it is certainly his perspective. I guess we'll see, if Dooley gets hired and neither Embree nor Philips do, then his perspective may be confirmed.

I mean..some of us are Slavic....where do people think that name came from...

Loosely translated it means "people of the word" or people who all speak the same language, but go ahead and make it into something else.
