LittleDTO is wrong. Saban was not hired before Shula was fired. Rich Rodriguez was target #1, was offered a contract, and was going to accept it before backing out. Moore had to redo everything after that. He was lucky because Saban and the GM weren't getting along, and the team was sucking. That is when Saban became interested in Alabama.

Saban turned down the tide first. They came back to him.

And yes, deals were in place before Shula was gone.

Given all of his public denials, I have been under an impression that there was no deal until right before their press conference.

From what I was told (a long time ago), was that Saban initially turned it down. They moved on to Rich Rod but still had some folks talking to Saban. I am not sure of the exact order, but when a deal in principle was reached with Saban, all the Rich Rod stuff stopped.

Saban, wasn't going to say anything until A: Shula was let go and B: the dolphins were finished with their season. People were pestering Saban for awhile if he was going to take the job and he denied till those things happened.

Something that hasn't been said yet: Thunder Thornton basically handed Hart a blank check and said get rid of Dooley and hire _______ about three weeks ago. Was just informed of this last night during the final nail in the coffin.
