I'm guessing we won't know a whole lot until practice starts. I think the consensus around here is that he will redshirt next year, but anything is possible.

I'm really looking forward to the Crompton era at UT. I just don't think that it needs to be rushed at this point. From what I have seen of JC, he looks like a solid QB with great leadership skills.

Welcome to the board.

Apparently Jon knows the playbook better than any other Freshman QB thats been here which is definitely a good start. Hopefully he has rested his arm and is ready to start throwing again soon. I dont think he will be redshirted unless it gets late in the season and we just didnt use him. I dont think he will start out the season as a redshirt.

Thank you!! I am really looking forward to him as well! I watched a video of him on the net and it was pretty pleasing to watch knowing he was ut bound!!

I have read jon is friends with heath schullar i wonder if he helped jon with reading defense? If he did that would be a big plus for him! Im not sure if he well redshirt. Last year i mean we had to use 3 qbs throught the season. I hope he starts. Im not a big clausen or a ainge fan!

I agree that he will not start out that way, but I have to think he will end up redshirting unless Clausen or Ainge gets hurt. If one of them does get hurt, then Crompton very quickly becomes the #2 guy.

Why are you guys all up his a$$?? You have one of the best QB's in the SEC in Ainge and hes only a SOPH! But yet you guys continue to talk about a freshman that hasnt played a single down, and hope hell start over an all-sec qb? I dont get it.

First of all, I think that Ainge is the man and have always thought that. Crompton will one day be the future so we are going to talk about him too. Is that okay?

What else are we supposed to talk about GV? Crompton is a big time player. I for one don't think he will see action next year, but it's fun to speculate on how good he might be.

if you dont want to read it than dont click on the topic! Im not sayin ainge is not a good qb or anything! To me the guy is a punk!! but that dont mean he cant play football. I have a friend that goes to ut and ainge thinks he owns the place. He thinks people should move out of his way when he walks the halls and if not he just runs them over. Im sorry but thats not how most people in tn are! I would like every one to think good of our qbs like manning!

You don't like your players to be a little cocky? He may be a punk, but at least you know it means he's got a confidence that's hard to shake, which IMO is one of the best aspects a qb can have.

As far as Crompton, I say redshirt him. Losing both starters like last season should be highly unlikely. Plus we will get great mileage for the next five years out of our QB's. Crompton will serve as a great #2 when Ainge is a junior and senior, and then JC will get two years of his own time to shine.

Well, i like players who can talk the talk and back it up!! But thats talk! Not when a player thinks the world evolves around them NO! Like i said he is a good quaterback! Im not saying he dont deserve the starting spot. When somebody is cocky and thinks everybody esle should move out of there way, somebody will knock that cockiness out of them either on the football field or off from it!

Well, if he is supposed to have it knocked out of him, I think it would have happened in our game against Auburn. But, he's still the same. It means he maintains his demeanor very well.

As a local NC boy I hope this guy has a great career at UT. I've watched this kid develop the last couple yrs here hoping he'd stay home and go to UNC...but I wish him the best of luck at UT.

i didnt say someone is suppsoe to knock it out of him!!! Once again he is a good qb. My only point is the boy thinks he owns ut. Now im sure when you was in school or maybe even work you have met someone cocky before! So you know excatly what im sayin. He dont move out of the way for other people to walk by he expects them to move for him. I here alot of students say he is a jerk, punk, and alot of people dont like his off feild ways!! But thats not what we look at!!

I went to high school with Ainge for two years, played in the same football program as him and am an acquaintance of his. I know exactly what you are talking about. Yes, he is arrogant. He considered himself a celebrity in the town of Hillsboro (and pretty much was). While I don't like arrogant people, I think most good football players should have a level of arrogance about them. My point is you are complaining about him being arrogant, and while I'm agreeing with you that he is, I think it is alright because of the fact that he is a football player. If he wasn't like that, he wouldn't be good.

Ok so you dont like arrogant people just like i dont!! Here in tn we are people that open doors and hold them open till the person behind us get to it! And say excuse me when we bump into someone!! YOu are correct a football player needs to motaviate hisself into becoming the best he can be!! thats on the football field not off the football field. Back in hillsboro it may be different than in tn but he is in tn not hillsboro.
He is good and needs to be anyway he wants on the football field but off from it he is not a king or a celebrity not in knox.

I think after starting 2 freshmen last yr anything is possible, but the circumstances were completly different, the 2 candidates in question have both been baptised by fire in that wonderful roller coaster ride we call the 2004 season! Not redshirting Crompton would be a complete waste unless something crazy happens and we lose both RC and EA, no matter how good he is. Standing on the sidelines watching those 2 work will only make him that much better in the future.

I have no prob w/ you guys talking about the future, but Ive read on more than one occasion that posters here think crompton should start, and it makes me wonder why. Ainge is as good of a qb that youll find (for being a soph) hes got a whole yr under his belt and i think itd be foolish to start another fresh. Just reminding you guys that you do have an all-conf qb
