Butch Jones has vowed to be aggressive in recruiting at UT. I hope he can do better here than he did at UofCincy. This year's UofCincy recruiting class has the following:

** 9 (4 of which are not rated)

*** 5

**** 0

***** 0

This year's UofCincy class is ranked 68 right now by Rivals. Whereas, UT (while under Dooley and his assistants) has a class that is ranked by Rivals at # 25 at the current time.

We can only hope. GBO......... anyway.

What do you expect at Cincy? Compare his recruiting ranking within the conference and compared to Kelly's classes.

I don't normally go all thread police on people. That said:

1) There are at least two other threads which address this exact topic here and in the RF.

2) Seems like a no-brainer and not worth starting a new thread to say this.

Happy message boarding.

We will see if we don't see mostly four stars and a hopefully a few fives we'll know it is not gonna work in the SEC. You can find some very good three star players but not enough to compete in the SEC.

Hopefully, aggressive recruiting means effort and not even the slightest bending of the rules, or that could be real trouble down the road, something we don't need.

If I was a 5 star talent and Vince Lombardi was the coach of Cincy, I wouldn't go there.

I think this is going to be his Achilles Heel. A bigger budget just means you can throw a wider net and recruit on a larger scale. You still have to be able to convert what is there. You have to have 4-5* recruits. If you can't close the deal on them it doesn't matter what your budget is. If he keeps the same basic staff he had, I don't see how they are going to magically begin to win those kind of recruits when they did not do it before. Even Dooley with a 25 rank class is abysmal. That will put us near the bottom of the SEC. Hopefully, the lure of Tennessee, the SEC, better facilities will sway more big time recruits than what they could win over at Cincy.

Cincy has notoriously bad facilities and plays in the Big East while we have the best facilities in the nation and play in the sec I think he'll have an easier time here

Draw to UT is greater than that of Cincy

Good point........lots of people just do not understand your point. It is so obvious a difference, yet, so many do not even consider the differences SEC conference, Istadium, facilities, level of competition, really no comparison. There is no comparison in Cincy and Tennessee in any shape, form or fashion.

Your comparing apples and oranges. You got to be patient. Your going to be surprised.

Jesus Christ this has been discussed ad nauseum. Where do you guys think Saban Miles and Urban Meyers classes were before they came to the SEC. We may not win the recruiting battle, but we ve got stupidest fan base pretty well locked up.

Not a fair comparison. He now has the UT name and the nation's largest recruiting budget. Let's see what he can do.

GBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is what I was referring to in my OP. Several of our current recruits said they would probably go elsewhere if Hinshew were not retained. It is my understanding that Jones fired Hinshew yesterday, so we may lose some of our current commits. It is also my understanding that Jones is bringing most of his Cincy staff with him. If so, I'm afraid our recruiting will not improve until Jones proves himself in the SEC, and without quality recruits... it will be very difficult to compete in the SEC.

New coach gets to choose His on staff. I have seen no improvement in Tenn. with Hinshew or the rest of that staff. Give the new coach a break.

Don't expect him to challenge any of the big boys in the conference.

Agree. If he lands a top 5 in SEC class that be may about as good as it gets. He will have win big first.

Bama
Florida
Georgia
LSU
Texas A&M
Tennessee? - May fall here in recruiting in a few years.

Dude...it was Cincy! They can barely get 15,000 fans in a 35,000 max capacity stadium. How is he supposed to recruit inside the state of Ohio against Ohio State?? His classes progressively got better over his 3 years and they were also better than the "great" Brian Kelly's classes. His enthusiasm and strive for the game are the main things that will bring the 5*s and 4*s back to Neyland. If Derek Dooley was able to bring in Justin Hunter, CP, Tiny, etc., then I'm sure CBJ will do just fine.

Go Vols!

So much negativity shrouded in the cloak of 'realism'. The guy has been in town less than a week and already he cannot pick assistants, recruit, or keep current recruits.

I guess if asked about Christmas - they would say an obese scruffy white man dirties their home with chimney cinders, leaves boxes and wrapping that has to be disposed of, and steals the cookies and milk out of their mouths.

Tennessee / SEC --- Cincy / Big East...apples to oranges.
Recruiting---competitive, successful recruiting---another reason CBJ should keep CDH.
