Off topic but after the big snowfall in March of '93 some UT students built an igloo in Circle Park that stood for days even while most of the snow was melting...The News Sentinel ran a photo of it and it could fit 5 people inside (sitting down). Perhaps I am easily impressed but I would not know how to build one. It's not all fun and games over there some students do have some skill and apply it even in the name of a good time.

I know one of them ended up in the river. :eek:lol:

How the hell did you guys break the one up?

I know a large chunk of one got carried to a nearby firehouse where they cut up a bunch of little pieces for everybody.

We had a HUGE snowball fight in Presidential Ct in Feb 96...had about 12 inches that shut UT down for several days. fun times!!

They were a fun few days indeed.

I remember there was a band member on the second floor N. Carrick who loved Green Day, and he was the point of abuse and a broken window.

Snuck a keg into the dorm in a TV box and kept it in the shower to celebrate.

I was thinking about this whenever the story about the players going to jail was posted. I would spend a night in jail just to have one of my old weekends back in college: Friday (no class), Saturday, Sunday, Monday (one class)

Funny thing, Knoxville and snow.

The first time that I visited my friends in Knoxville was back in 2005 (for Fight Night). There was a snow storm that produced maybe 2-3 inches, but we got caught on the Plateau in heavier snow on the way back from Knoxville. From that moment on, I could feel UT beckoning to me to return to the beautiful mountains and the fun that I had.

Enrolling in UT was one of the best decisions that I've ever made in my life.

06-11 (yes, I was on the 5 year plan) so I got to experience the final 3 years of Fulmer, the Kiffin experiment, and the first Dooley year. Throw the final years of the great Pat Summitt in there, and the Pearl Era of basketball.

The block parties and house parties in The Fort.
Living in Knoxville Place before it was a dorm. Back when it was 12 floors of constant nonsense and debauchery.

I met my wife at UT and we have so many good memories of UT/Knoxville as well.

There was a hill in the back of my neighborhood where my friends and I lived. Every time that it would snow we would drink (read: chug) whiskey and try to sled and snowboard down the hill.

Have fun college kids, never grow up.

[makes call #28 on the day]

When I got mine - but it was back in '87 - I saw they were tearing down the one at the student end so I lead a group to the other end of the field and grabbed that one, we paraded it around the field a bit and then walked out through the big gate that was there. I was front on an end piece and we walked it down the strip and people in cars were honking, it was great. We took it to the fire station and they gave us a hacksaw. I cut off a 18" section of the capped end piece and sawed off another one for my buddy (who was 3rd string QB at the time). Then the fire guys brought out the jaws of life (first time I had ever seen one) and clipped it in pieces for everyone there. I and my buddy were the only ones with straight pieces. I converted it into a cup and when I brought it in bars along the strip, some of the places (the Lap back then) would fill it with beer. It was awesome. They really were hunting for that piece too because it seems like it was important for the netting. They offered a $500 reward but I never turned it in. :D

When I was a freshman in 2002/2003, UT shut down for snow for the first time in a decade. I was living in Reese in presidential court and a massive snowball fight broke out. It was awesome.

Police showed up within 15 minutes and started issuing citations to anyone caught throwing a snowball, said something about there was a law against throwing snowballs.

Beacon ran a story within a few days about an incident in the 80s where a girl was killed by a thrown snowball or something to that effect.

Anyway, after we couldn't throw snowballs anymore, we all stole lunch trays out of the dining hall and went sledding down the Hill. Good times.

Does this mean we should ban driving cars?

I saw some drunk guys walking down the street with the original Peyton Manning Pass sign

Gotta tear it all down!

One passed me as it was being paraded up Cumberland Avenue. I believe I heard that it was cut into pieces at a machine shop off the strip. Not sure if I am remembering correctly, too long ago.

Took the cops about 15 mins, but this was awesome. thanks dobbs and the whole ut student body for one of the coolest memory of my undergrad so far.
