Josh Heupel emerges (old thread)

You’ve started down absolute bat **** crazy threads with unfounded claims. Just add that one to list.
Not saying I haven’t, but I think some have been close to being right. Not all. I think Les Miles would be great for leadership right now though. It this crisis, he would be a great teacher if we have NCAA suspensions. He could help this program for several years.

He did well for 2 years.... declining, but not dropping off. He straight dropped on year 3. He did not do "well" longer. He just did longer. 6-4 w/ UCF's schedule (8 gimmees in 2020) isn't my idea of doing well.

Lost by 3 to the 7th ranked team in the country.

Lost by a lot to the best BYU team (and more talented) in a long long time.

3 losses by a combined 12 points. Surly they should do better if they want to continue to be what they were.

However I wouldn’t simply take 1 covid year.......that wasn’t simply terrible, as the deciding factor (not like it was a Tennessee season...6-4).

Again though.......I’d rather have several coaches.....even some coordinators. As I think Heupel needs to be much more proven.

It official. Every single coach sucks. We can’t win with them 🙄.

This situation - despite the money - isn’t too appealing to good, experienced coaches with other options. It doesn’t matter what our record was in the 90s. Or how many first round picks we’ve had. The program is in shambles. Start with someone who wants to be here and hope he’s good. Y’all are acting like we have leverage here.

Perhaps it isnt appealing. If one listens to the media and rival fans, it is just short of being mayor of Lepersville. But that was also said just up to the hiring of White......that we were a joke. Then it got quiet from our critics for a few sweet days. We just have to get over what is said about us. Dont we recognize by now that we are going to get singled out when stormy times are here because that is what media and opposing fans do. We are not unique.....lets not buy in to the narrative of "Knoxville is a dead end". Picture this: they hire Chadwell. He comes home to a Volnation that quickly learns to love him and his success begins to grow. Recruiting gets big again....people begin to believe.....and other teams start to look back on the days when we couldn't win with fondness - because this is a damned sleeping giant if just managed right. And most of us know that - at least we used to believe it. And we can again.......if this hire is done right. Cmon DW, get this right

the fact he is right in the middle of Orlando FL and cant recruit well enough to put even an average defense on the field is pretty staggering.

I’m not defending nor promoting Heupel but the mighty SEC isn’t exactly keeping their legs together on a church bench either.

Upon further inspection of his record, this would actually be a pretty underwhelming hire. Not a bad hire, but underwhelming nonetheless.

Definitely better than Sonny Dykes, but UCF has certainly trended the wrong way under Josh Heupel's tenure.

They lost to Tulsa, Memphis, Cincinnati, and BYU this year. To be fair, all 3 of his regular season losses were within 1 score. However, he did get blown out by BYU. The exact same thing can be said of 2019. All 3 of Heupel's losses that year were within 1 score that year.

Got a lifelong friend at the bball game tonight, donates a good bit of $$. He’s saying this has legs from whoever whispered in his ear tonight. TFWIW. Regardless if true or not, Can’t believe we didn’t give Chadwell serious consideration.
An absolute crime if we don't

Wes Rucker hearing Heupel as well, Patrick Brown says it appears Jeff Lebby is leaving Ole Miss to join him at TN as QB coach.

If he were to snag Lebby and maybe keep Steele around to focus on the defense this could get interesting.

UCF just hasn't been closing out games.

The BYU blowout gives me pause on him though.

I would amend my thoughts on Heupel if COVID meant he had a star or multiple star players opt out. I don't know if he did or not.

If COVID didn't fundamentally alter his personnel, then everyone had COVID. It is a non-factor.

It amazes me that fans think a Top Shelf Coach would jump into an NCAA nightmare. If major sanctions hit, no matter who the coach is, years 2-3-4 would be awful and fans wont care!

So, UT makes a universally praised hire in Danny White. They pay him an obscene amount to prove that they have unrestrained confidence in him. While White's job isn't solely dependent on this hire, there's no doubt that the administration spent the money because they were convinced he'd nail it. What does he do with that mandate? He hires the guy that's been slowly pissing away the very reason that everyone thought the world of Danny White.

This can't be real life, can it?

If you didn't understand our depths of hell before , this is the kinda thing that has become our real life.

If true, it's like DW couldn't find someone to take to the dance, so he ended up taking his sister.

Should we go ahead and post a coaching thread for 2024?
