Josh Heupel emerges (old thread)

Clemson didn't go 6-4. Don't be disingenuous. He's done nothing to suggest he didn't ride the coattails of the previous coach, who went undefeated and left him talent from that team. Clemson has a track record.

Seriously, that's the example you try and use?

Ride coattails......are you serious?

Frost has ONE good year period.

You people need to know more of the situation before making your own argument.

In 3 years Heupel has lost 1 more game than Frost did in 2 years.......Frost was only there for 2 seasons......not like he was there for a decade installing his system.

UCF had around 13 players who “opted out” for the entire season.

Vols coaching updates are all over the place...and I kind of like that. Hopefully White surprises us with someone really good.

It will be financially hilarious, if we paid Danny White all this money, and he turned around and dropped $120,000 on a search firm, only to raid UCF and hire Heupel for the second time in his career.

My read is this. UTAD is locked down tighter than Fort Knox and these media stooges are getting zilch. So, they start looking at past White coaches like Heupel or past White candidates like Elliott and start SPECULATING and connecting dots to create stories.

We won’t know until White wants us to know.

Let's put Heupel in perspective:

Kiffin = entertainment + offense + unknown offenses to NCAA and public at large. hahahah... brand builder.

Freeze = competitive SEC football + god knows what after he gets his confidence back

Campbell = 10+ years as HC... probably a solid program ready to hand off to a groomed successor - brand steward and dynasty lead-off hitter

Napier = aggressively good recruiting + off-kilter schemes in the SEC... could be a great success, could be figured out by everyone after year 1

Heupel > Butch (v1) > Dooley > Alan Ruck > Pruitt

It would be

I would start off NegaVol again.

however I don’t see that even as a remote possibility.......hope I’m right.

Pronounced HYPE-ULL
UCF in 2015 (Frost) - 0-12...enough said
2016 (Frost) 6-7 Blowout loss to Michigan and Akr St. Bowl game
2017( Frost) - 14-0 multiple dominating wins and a huge "upset" over Auburn.
2018- 13-1 with a loss to talented LSU team (won the Natty the next season)
2019- 10-3 loss to Cincinnati by 3. Tulsa by 3. Pitt by 1. (7 points from being undefeated again)
2020 - 6-4 loss to ranked Cincy (best cincy team ever?) loss to ranked Tulsa (8 pts) loss to Memp by 1
loss to BYU by almost 30 in bowl game. (Best BYU in 30 years)

So in 2020 they lost to 3 ranked teams and a very stable Memphis program. Only bad loss to BYU.
Cincy was a top 10 team this year.

Recruiting 2014-2017 average of 67th.
2018-2021 average of 62nd

Huepel definitely is trending downward, but it's not a total nose dive. Probably should have been 8-2 in .
2020. And his recruiting was more consistent than Frosts. Frost was only there for 3 seasons.

Not excited if he gets hired...but he might be better than average to good coach potentially.
He's a OU alumni and from South Dakota. Perhaps the Rocky Top culture is better for him?? Than a UCF.
I think they lost the Memphis game when the kicker missed a chip shot field goal for the win too.
