Josh Huepel Appreciation Thread

No, I'm still mad about the last 2 weeks. Didn't expect to win today but expected team to play a decent game. I don't want CJH gone but I'm not in the mood to show any appreciation tonight. Maybe in a few days.

He has brought us back into conversations once thought to be unattainable, but lack of urgency in the moment has led to us getting pushed out of the room again. He needs to go spend some time with Apollo Creed and get the eye of the tiger back lol

This. Losing to Misery and UGA is not unexpected, but not even competing with either of them most certainly was.

I appreciate Heupel, but some of his decisions are obviously dumb as hell. We could’ve went 8-4 with Nico this year and got him some very valuable playing time to make quite a run during his sophomore season. Stop being afraid to hurt someone’s feelings and be an even better football coach. You stuck with Hooker when Milton went down as the starter not long ago, you should’ve made the switch again this season.

Heupel is the best we can do right now and he isn't a bad coach. He just isn't Saban or Smart. The fact is, college football in the SEC just sucks and has been for a while.

You might as well put Alabama and Georgia in Atlanta every year. Fortunately, next year the divisions go away and the entire scope of the league changes.

We get Florida and Alabama at home which gives us a better chance but we do have to go to Oklahoma...

Milton was a bust, we roll our dice and it didn't work. Tennessee also had tons of injuries on both sides of the ball this year. The team regressed as a result week after week and the season never took off.

However, that Alabama-Georgia strangle hold is sucking the life and joy from the sport and has been for a while. They get all the recruits and the other fan bases just have to suffer as a result.

Tennessee isn't a lone in misery, look at Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn, Arkansas, even LSU this year. It is a rough year for a lot of teams (or even decade). LSU has been the only program that has shown any ability to contend with Alabama and Georgia, and they do it every 5-6 years.

Hate to be this guy, but 8-4 is not a given.
I know it is easy to not pay attention to Vanderbilt football, but they are about on the level of UCONN. Their 2 wins against Hawaii (almost choked that game away) and Alabama A&M isn't really having me questioning this upcoming game.

JH is 25-12 in three years, including wins over FL, SC, Clemsuck, and Alabama. We won 11 games for the first time in 21 years.

Since 2016-2020, the Vols' record is a combined 29-31.

Vols have had only 5 double digit win seasons SINCE 1998. Including 2022.

Since 2008, Vols have only boasted a winning record (above .500) 8 times. Huepel has 3 of those, which account for every year of his coaching tenure.

Vols were investigated by the NCAA for 2/3 years. And are on probation currently.

He has only won games, kept the ship upright, and will land us a top 12 Recruiting Class (which could
be better).

Take your complaints elsewhere. Now lets suck it up and get some players.

I think there’s 2 things that create my frustration. 1. Nico not getting enough reps. 2. Loyalty to under performing and/or unproven coaches.

Let us not forget that we have been winning games and the players have been focused enough to stay out of trouble. That is why athletes’ parents will want their kids to consider Tennessee. That is why I am happy with Coach Heupel and his staff.

This is technically true...and now with Spraggins gone we will have 1 or 2 out of our 5 starting Oline for this Vandy game. We might not cover that 26 point spread....

But we arent losing to Vandy bro. Those sad, sad couple years are long gone. We will run, run, and run some more. Hopefully Nico plays the 2nd half. We better get healthy for this bowl game though or we might lose that one depending on our opponent.

If you check out the thread I started with the PFF grades...we were missing nearly half of our best players on offense AND defense against UGA. Our secondary is a 3rd string mess right now that wasnt very good to begin with. Hopefully some of the SEVEN freshmen DBs end up being good SEC players. We also have about 20 defensive backs on our 85 man team. We need to get rid of about half of the older and crappier ones so that:

1. We can replace them with new and better DBs and

2. Defensive backs arent taking up 25% of our available scholarships that could be used on linemen, TEs, WRs, etc.

I think Heupel couldve managed some in games better...especially this year
but all in all he came in to a crap show and had us in season 2 as no 1 in the country.
this year is what it is
next year may be worse but I believe we could do a lot worse
he came into a total total bottom dweller team... we are not that anymore.

As long as we can grab a couple serviceable offensive linemen from the portal, we should do a little better next season IMO. 9-3 probably for 2024. Now in 2025 after these good and great classes from 23 and 24 respectively have matured a bit....we should definitely make the 12 team playoffs at a minimum and win 10 games or more in the regular season. We have some very good players in these 2 classes and Nico will have a full season as starter under his belt too...the future is very bright at UT. Our 2024 class is great. Best in 20 years hands down. They will all have a full season under their belts even if they don't play much as freshmen.. and a full year in UT strength/conditioning/nutrition programs to change their bodies from great HS players into SEC caliber young men. 2025 team will be very good. Bama should be the team to beat then, not uga...Bamas last 3 classes ranked 1st, 2nd, 1st. I am so ready for Saban to retire.

Pili at LB in game 1 was also huge blow
This really doesn’t get enough attention IMO. This was a huge loss. He is a mature guy that has played a ton of football . He can be a leader by example and vocally. He’s the kind of guy that makes a difference and makes plays that don’t allow for 26 and 27 points unanswered.

All hail Coach Heupel! No coach worshiping allowed, until he earns it out on the field again.
Your screen name is the most appropriate name of all time. We all know you're a rival team troll. What a disappointing life you must lead.

I still think he is the man for the job, injuries haven't helped. I think the future is bright.
