Josh Selby Update

As talented a player as Selby is, I think a lot of you are being short sighted.

With everything the Vols have accomplished this year as far as playing good basketball and coming together as a team, a player such as Selby who's intention is to be one and done would in my opinion take away from that. Yes, on paper we would be more talented, but at what cost? Would you have traded more talent this year or better basketball? I dont think so.

So you're saying tobias is a 4 year player???

Why do people automatically assume that Selby is a me first player? He hasn't done anything that would make me think he is. Give him a chance before you automatically tab him as a problem.

Okay, not sure if it's been posted -- I know it was posted as a rumor from ESPN yesterday, but absolutely confirmed that Josh is down to Tennessee and Kansas.

Beyond that is anyone's guess, but it's a much better position than not even being on his list as he suggested previously (smoke screen?) and if he is down to UT and Kansas, and this is me reading the tea leaves, then you gotta think we are the choice. I mean, how do you go from not being sure they were on the list to one of your final 2 schools. UK and Kansas would make much more sense if the choice were Kansas.

Just my 2 pennies.

Not saying Selby is a problem, at all. In fact I think CBP is exactly the coach he needs to be extremely effective on the next level. At the same time lets not fool ourselves there have been quite a few red-flags surrounding him.

Regardless he is a major talent and will benefit any team tremendously. What I'm saying is that when you look at the direction the program has moved in specifically this past year I'd be concerned with more than just talent

That's just silly. There is no reasoning whatsoever in your statement. A one-and-done player like Selby never takes away from a team. Talent is talent. Period. Doesn't make any difference how long you're staying in school.

That just makes zero sense.

What red flags? Why don't you list them if they support your point rather than just saying there are "red flags" and offering no substantiation? Your argument would automatically be stronger if you did.

Calm down, you are becoming way too defensive and I'm not on here to argue. In my opinion his de-commitment was a "red flag", If you want some more do your own un-bias research. AGAIN like I said he is a tremendous talent and the ONLY point I am trying to make is that there is a possibility that certain types of players, WHILE ADDING TALENT can effect things like great team chemistry.

And while talent is talent, I dont know if you just forgot this past season where the team PERFORMED better after losing a lot of talent.

Dont be mistaken, up to me, I'd take the talent any day of the week, I am however bringing up a point that I think SHOULD be considered.

Yeah, that SEC tournament performance was something else.

If you really believe that losing Tyler Smith helped this team then I have nothing more to say to you.

...Completely missing my point...hope Selby becomes a vol (again) confident CBP is the best coach for him

Fair enough, I respect your opinion, but don't totally agree. I believe there are exceptions, like when you get a talent like Harris, who also happens to be from everything I've seen a GREAT kid, and you have the opportunity to change the entire culture of your program.

Again I'm NOT saying that Selby will ruin any of this, but I am saying when you are in a good situation like UT is, I think its important to be critical of ANYTHING messing things up.

I get your point, I just disagree. You take talent every time and figure out chemistry later.

Don't kid yourself. The minute Tobias Harris is slated an early first round pick, he's gone from Tennessee and Bruce Pearl would kick his ass if he wasn't.

Again, thats not the point...

Regardless of when he becomes ready for the next level, because of his character his impact on the program can be tremendously positive.

I also like how Selby is an "attention whore" and a "me first player" because of how he's handling his recruitment and Tobias is always described as a "great kid". Have people watched that youtube video of Harris? I'd say he doesn't mind being the center of attention either. They're kids, people need to stop trying to be dime store shrinks around here.

Well said:good!:

Selby's labels are not from his recruitment, In fact the way he has handled his recruitment since his de-commitment has probably done much to improve his image. I think/hope he's grown a bit from when he gained such labels.

And yes, I'm gonna continue to go with the consensus about Harris, I've heard time and time again that he's a Great kid, and I'm not going to change my opinion because of a youtube video even tho I don't see anything in that video that would really make me feel any different.

Point wasn't that Harris isn't a great kid, just that people really love being on one extreme or the other when talking about them.
