Jr and Jr to drive for JR Motorsports in 2008?

I preferred the "Earnhardt leaning toward Hendrick" rumor myself, but it appears that one was denied by HMS.

I'm trying here, I really am, but I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around JR Motorsports running/supporting TWO Cup cars/teams. They barely have one mid-pack Busch car/team at the moment. I suppose getting engines/support from HMS would ease the transition for the team, but if they do this they could have a year similar to what Waltrip is having this season.

That or maybe Jr. is buying TEI out or at least the majority of it and is just taking everything to his shop. I guess we'll see.

Earnhardt Jr. leaving DEI
By Jerry Bonkowski, Yahoo! Sports
May 9, 2007 Dale Earnhardt Jr. officially will say goodbye to Dale Earnhardt Inc. on Thursday morning, Yahoo! Sports has learned.
A highly placed source within DEI as well as additional sources familiar with the situation told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday afternoon that both Junior and teammate Martin Truex Jr. will announce Thursday morning that they are leaving the DEI camp at the end of this season and will drive for Earnhardt's heretofore Busch Series operation, JR Motorsports.
Sirius Radio also reported late Wednesday afternoon that the Earnhardt/Truex split with DEI was a done deal and that the new Cup team entry will field Chevrolet chassis built by Hendrick Motorsports and will use Hendrick engines as well.
Sources tell Yahoo! Sports that Earnhardt Jr.'s primary sponsor, Budweiser, will follow Junior to JR Motorsports. Budweiser's contract with DEI is due to expire at the end of 2008, but Yahoo! Sports sources believe there are provisions within the contract for an early exit if Earnhardt Jr. does not drive the No. 8 Chevrolet for DEI.
The press conference, which is expected to be televised nationally, will take place at JR Motorsports headquarters in Mooresville, N.C., at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday.

There has been no comment thus far from either DEI president Teresa Earnhardt (Dale Jr.'s stepmother) or company director of global operations Max Siegel.

Uh, wow.

How is that team going to be able to fully operate TWO Cup teams? Where are the people going to come from?

That's the rumor, Eury and the entire team will be going with him.

That Yates/TEI merger makes a little more sense now.

does this mean a possible return of Michael Waltrip to DEI?

i can't believe the Juniors are going to be jumping in just about the same cars as Jeffy "Poo" Gordon. :eek:lol:

FOX Sports - NASCAR - Junior to make announcement Thursday

"I'm interested in going with him," Eury Jr. told FOXSports.com on Wednesday. "He takes care of his people. Whether it's a pat on the back or ways to entertain them, he takes care of everyone around him. Much like the way people are treated at Hendrick Motorsports. Junior does the same thing. Owners who don't treat their people well suffer."

Eury Jr. is in the second year of a three-year contract, but he made it clear that if his driver left, he could go with him. Eury Jr. said although Junior is relatively new to the ownership ranks, "He (Dale Jr.) will lean on people to point him in the right direction."

Eury Jr. also said Junior's JR Motorsports shop has three times more working space than he's currently using.

listening to Tony Stewart's show on SIRIUS right now and he has David Poole on, who does the SIRIUS morning show.

he's reporting based on what he can confirm (Poole) that Junior is going to declare himself a free agent. not neccesarily he's going to announce he's forming his own team, but that's the story Poole is reporting and it's the one he's sticking too.

That's one theory I guess. The way I'd refute though is it's been pretty much known that Jr. would be a free agent if the contract talks with TEI didn't go anywhere, and they obviously haven't. That could still be the announcement, but I think that's been obvious and wouldn't be as 'major' as it's being billed as announcing exactly what team he'll be driving for in 2008.
