Jr and Jr to drive for JR Motorsports in 2008?

there's several things i'm trying to figure out here.

1. does starting his own team put him even further behind in his quest for a championship? i hear a lot things about how he's got equipment at his shop (JR Motorsports) that aren't at DEI, yet his Busch team isn't very good. he basically runs a one car team, therefore is at a disadvantage against the larger teams who run Buschwackers. does he feel that with a two car team and support from the best team in NASCAR right now, combined with what he has at his shop, that he can compete next year?

2. he's what, 31? seems to me like his plateu is coming in the next 3-4 years (give or take) and starting a new team at this point seems like, to me anyway, that this could be career suicide. i mean he's either going to have success, or flop.

3. does Teresa think she can really get by without him? it's no secret that Yates still has the engines to run with anybody horsepowerwise, he's just lacking in the driver department, along with aerodynamics. but, who's going to want to come race for her/Yates when she can't even keep the most popular driver around?

4. if this trns out to be true, is anybody really suprised? i mean Junior's made no secret he wants to be in charge. is it a huge shock it's come to this?

5. lastly, does his sister really know what she's doing? or is it more of a family loyalty thing and he may be listening to bad advice.

I'd be worried about this putting him behind if he wasn't getting the Hendrick chassis and engines. Those are the biggies and all JR Motorsports would have to supply would be the people (which is apparently going to be the current #8 team, although I'm not sure how TEI just lets them walk, plus whoever JR Motorsports hires) to work on the cars at the shop. The Busch team isn't that bad. Robby Gordon almost won in the #88 last year at Michigan and Truex ran in the top ten in the few races he drove the car after they realized Mark McFarland (neither is Shane Huffman) wasn't any good.

6. hypothetically speaking, if Dale Sr. comes back on Friday (or after the press conference tommorow), what would he say?

Wow. TE is the dumbest person in all of racing. If this turns out to be true, the great DEI that Sr. started for his son has basically been trashed in just six short years by an owner whom never should have been in control anyway!!! I hope this happens because just like Tidwell said, using HMS engines and chassis will take a whole lot of the new team wrinkles out of this.

wow, I guess Dale Jr and Teresa's relationship is a lot worse than I thought. If this happens to be true, DEI is gonna go down the crapper, all they will have left is Paul Menard. If JR Motorsports uses Hendrick engines and chassis, that team should be fine (guess Jr liked what he had in driving that 5 car at Texas).

Let me ask a stupid question. Everybody seems quick to write off Teresa Earnhardt as a complete idiot . . . Could it be as simple as the licensing of the Dale Earnhardt likeness, signature and logo being so lucrative that Teresa Earhardt could really care less about the racing side of the operation and thus does not feel the need to give up majority ownership?

Bingo.

It wasn't until recently (year or so maybe?) that Jr. himself had control of his own likeness, signature, and all that. Teresa did.

The Charlotte Observer is reporting that the rumor of Dale and Martin driving cup cars for JR Motorsports isn't true. They are claiming that this press conference is just to announce that he is done at DEI after this season.

For the life of me, I can't figure out what in the world Teresa is trying to prove here! If Jr. leaves, so does Budweiser and any chance of DEI ever being a sucess!

I've been a Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan ever since I sat in the stands at Bristol when I was 11 years old and watched him win his first race. Now she is destroying what's left of his legacy!

How about if RCR picks up Jr and we see him in a black budselect #3 car?

Bud will follow as mentioned before, but I believe DEI owns the #8....

This has to be one of the most monumentally stupid business moves in history. Theresa Earnhardt has proven she shouldn't be trusted to even balance a checkbook...

I tend to agree, but I keep going back to the same point. As long as DEI makes significant money managing the Earnhardt legacy, why would Teresa want to give up 51% of it to anybody?

Lisa Marie now controls the Elvis estate...

I can't argue your point, as far as it goes. But make no mistake, the cost to that corporation will be deep and maybe even crippling without Jr. and his fan base...

It make take a few years but Jr leaving will hit them hard. Earnhardt Legacy profit in my opinion will get less and less every year. Reason being a lot of new fans are not that big Dale Sr seeing how they never saw him race. They mainly support the young guns.

Being an Earnhardt fan this is the best news I have heard in a long time. I am a huge fan of Sr. and I believe if he were still with us the kids would be running much of DEI on their own. Also on a side note.... I will never buy another thing with Sr on it if I know it is keeping money out of that Teresa's pocket. Long live the Earnhardt legecy.

You make a VERY interesting point. Will the Dale Sr. diehards still buy 33 gear since TEI will get some of the money??
