Easy risk/reward situation. There's very little risk, they're "cheap" because you really don't have to offer NIL above like a "livable wage" amount (give the kids some grocery money) and if they are half a Bryon Young you've come out on top. If not, at worst they're depth.

I mean I guess "worst" could be they get dismissed from the team for some reason but that's an aside.

This kid has all the physical tools and has never had the benefit of the facilities or training table of a top division 1 program. He also is very raw as a DL because he was a skills positron player in high school. He's mostly been performing on raw athleticism and instinct. If RG thinks he can mold those raw materials, and the kid has the drive necessary.... who am I (or any of us) to question taking his commitment?

Won’t be here until this summer. And RC made it sound like he won’t really be a contributor this year. Still raw and our DL is senior heavy. But he should make for an easy transition once Big O, Lott, Simmons etc all leave next year.

Also said the staff is going to see what his body does in a good S&C program before settling on his position. Does he stay above 300 or go back to the 280 range.

You and I have discussed this a bit…but when I look at our DL under this staff I seem to notice a typical body type for each position…SDE tends to be 6’4”+ and 260-280…3-tech seems to be 6’2”-6’3” and 300+…that makes me think Wallace will be more inside than SDE…what do you think?

Kinda looks that way, unless, as the previous poster mentioned, he ends up around 280 with our S&C program. If he’s still agile enough, he can play SDE at that weight.

Baron provided a little different body type than the SDE measurements you mentioned, at 6’5” 265. He was quick/agile for a SDE, but not so much for a LEO…and bigger than a LEO. I’m not sure we have that right now.

How many years does he have to play? A JUCO not being a contributor in year 1 isn't a great sign unless he's one of those that has 3 years of eligibility.

What's that got to do with questioning his years of eligibility? I'd almost think that makes him even more risky if you only end up getting one season out of him AND he's adjusting to a new position at the highest level. Your reply to my question is confusing.

He has three years to play two according to 247.

I guess we moved on from Copeland, so the only DL left at this point is Watson or waiting until spring on McKinley

My response was regarding you citing he had not played his 1st year. Nothing more brother. Which is relevant given a position and body change. He looked good in the film he does have and above all I trust Rodney to know if this guy can compete in a timely manner.

No, no, no...that was referring to him likely not being a contributor in year 1 (2024) at Tennessee as the poster stated was the belief of Ryan Callahan. That would mean that unless he redshirts this upcoming season (which is hopefully the case) then we would only get one year of him seeing the field if he only gets two to play. I just meant that I don't like taking JUCOs who aren't immediate contributors if they can't redshirt at a minimum and maintain at least two years of eligibility to actually see the field.

I didn't mean not playing in year 1 at his JUCO.

JMHO that Wallace will develop his talent, get on the field, and make plays. His head seems to be in a good place, and he has the measurables. If he's got that dog in him, add coach Garner, and we should have us a player.

He has some unwanted weight. Everything I’ve heard indicates they’ll redshirt him unless they burn through depth. Garner is not going to waste two years of a roster space to get one.
