I was bothered by their fans booing the MSST player. Watched the clip from multiple angles and there was minimal, if any, contact. The contact created was by Watkins and didn’t have anything to do with her knee. She tore the right one when she planted to make contact. Not the left one when she hit the MSST player.

extremely sad situation but no need to pile on a player like that for an act of God

I’ll be shocked if she plays at all next year, would expect her to take a full year and rehab. Unless she has plans to go pro early like Candace did.
JuJu has come out advocating for players to be able to enter the W early, so it would not surprise me if that was her plan. May also be contigent on her ability to play where she wants.

Yeah I think she should declare early. Maybe come back for February/March next season, play full junior year and call it good.

Curious to see how their team manages going forward, the freshman stepped up huge last night but it was a highly emotional moment and they already had the momentum when she went down. That game was pretty much over from the tip, MSST wasn’t ready to play and looked frozen all night.

I suspect they have some trouble in the next round without their go to scorer.

Avery Howell is such a nice player though, shoots the leather off the ball and has great fundamentals. Had 6 assists mostly off great passes to Iriafen in the post.

My feelings exactly. This is a terrible thing, and unfortunately when I saw this happen, I knew it was going to be bad news. I've seen it too often, and it just kills me to see this happen, no matter who the team or player is. But you are right. She will probably not be able to play next year and will probably also join the WNBA draft. Super talent, and if she is able to play next year, it would be about this time she may be ready, but I seriously doubt she will risk re-injuring herself before the pro draft.

The injury was almost identical to how Cam Brink's happened. This injury is the curse of womens basketball. Every player is one misplanted step away.

My unpopular opinion is that JuJu needs another full yr of college play before going to the W. Based on her play this yr, she is not yet a guaranteed W star, esp coming off major injury.

That is another thing I love about CKC. She harps relentlessly about playing off of two feet. Really cuts down on those injuries. Players that over extend and jump off one leg are an injury waiting to happen. Our players were much better about jumping off two feet and utilizing the ball fake better.

This is why Clark has always been so healthy. You never see her make an extended play like that where she tries to euro off one leg and create contact. Either shoots a jumper or a standard layup otherwise she passes.

Gotta know your limits, some of these young ladies are too athletic for their bodies.

Really sad for her and it certainly affects her future some acl's take well over a year to heal properly and get you back to 100 percent. As far as USC they have players that could potentially take up the slack for them in their quest for a final four. Two players coming off the bench that have performed this season should get a lot more minutes going forward. The beatdown they put on Miss St proves that they could potentially be just as strong a team.

JuJu need to recover from injury and tell College Athletics to kick rocks. Go get your money young lady, cause nobody knows how long they will play ...Watkins has as much marketability as Caitlin Clark...

I’m curious how the injury will affect her draft stock.
It's almost April. ZZ came back in like 9 moths or 10 months. Say JuJu comes back in February of next season that would give her a couple of months to showcase her talents after a significant injury. May not be #1 pick but sure wouldn't fall out of top 3 to 5 range. Plus some Franchise would be banking on her coming full tilt again from her first two college years. Once again her marketability would make up for any loss of money .......

This is really a sad but much too common story in women's basketball. Everyone knows of special players and not so special players who have suffered this injury. My heart goes out to Ju Ju and wish her the best in her future - whatever she decides to do.

I'm too old and otherwise occupied to put in the effort to keep up with the nicknames of all our gals.
I'm too busy keeping the neighborhood kids off my lawn.
No player on any of the other teams interests me, so I'm not familiar with JuJu. I never listen to sports radio (or any radio for that matter), but I think the biggest story of the tourney so far is the way the Lady Vols are cutting through the competition like a buzz saw.

Playing two months and entering the draft next season isn't going to happen because JuJu is eligible for the 2027 draft not the 2026 one.

Of course, St. Cait plays the "right way" and hence, never gets injured.

But, did you see the injury clip? Juju was running and planted her leg when contact pushed her slightly off balance -- i.e a replay of the Brink injury (as per GLV98). There is no playing on "two feet" in that kind of situation. ACLs are so frustrating because sometimes it is just bad luck.

Back in the day Vicki Baugh re-tore her ACL when she just went up for a rebound and landed (on two feet), no contact, nothing, just a pop in her knee and her career was basically done with a 2nd ACL.

On the bright side, ACL repair techniques have come a long way, as have the rehab protocols. It is now pretty common for athletes to be back in 9 months.

she planted her right leg to lean into the defender and tore her ACL then made contact with the MSST player as she fell. If she had not taken that big right step euro to generate force she would not have torn her ACL.

Has nothing to do with whether you like Clark or not. It’s easy to appreciate that she plays with her feet under her which is advantageous for many reasons, including reduced injury risk.

There is video. There is no big Euro step. You are blaming the victim.

It is not about "not liking Clark" but countering a fictional creation. In any of these situations, Clark was putting her knee at risk (by doing a normal b-ball move) and contact at the right (or really wrong) angle and she could be in Brink and Watkins situation.Clark-2.jpgclark-1.jpg

You’ll notice in both of those photos Clark is using her INSIDE leg nearest the defender to create leverage because it is up under her. Watkins doing the exact opposite, creating contact and then trying to push into the defender off her outside leg. Basic body mechanics don’t work like that.

Better angle to see exactly what I’m talking about. Big euro with the right trying to go back left to create the foul. Doesn’t even have a play on the rim there was just going for the contact.
