Do we get to hang an ethics banner in FCC? That’s not the point. Pearl got us closer in one try than Barnes has in three. That’s a fact. Barnes is the coach. Pearl is never coming back.If Bruce hadn't lied he may have still been coaching, but he did and paid. Ethics wise Barnes blows Bruce out of the water. Why all this new Bruce love surfacing?
I like Ament and think he'll eventually be great. He needs a couple more years to develop. He has a very nice looking soft shot which will one day be really good, but his shooting numbers this year were bad. They were really picking up before the injury, but they ended up mediocre.Maybe this will help, if we compare his stats to Ament’s:
Ament Juke
Min. 29.7 35.2
FG% 39.9 44.4
3pt.% 33.3 33.2
FT% 79.0 78.3
REB 6.3 6.5
AST 1.9 2.3
BLK 0.6 0.2
STL 1.0 1.3
PF 2.0 2.1
TO 2.3 1.7
PTS 16.7 21.4
Their stats are almost identical, except Juke has a much better FG% and AST/TO ratio. The only thing we really lose is Ament’s height and shot-blocking. Basically, we are getting Ament’s production from last year, but with more efficiency.
Barnes has accomplished more, gets more out of his talent, and does it with more integrity. This isn't a debate.Ok, and? I’m talking about getting the most out of a roster. Barnes got the roster. Credit due. Everything else I stated was a brute fact, not an opinion.
Do you still want to pretend Barnes is a choir boy while raiding numerous rosters across the country?? (Which I’m for BTW). Do you think all these players are gonna show up, buy in, and just magically fit? We’ll see, but it’s never happened before for Barnes.
Absolutely the way I feel about it tooI’m not sure why we can’t respect what Pearl did and appreciate that we got Barnes after? Both succeeded at Tennessee. Without Pearl there is no Barnes. But without Barnes there is no 3 peat elite 8. Both were here at the perfect time. Let’s not pit them against one another.
Two specific posters hijacked the thread to do just that. Maybe you didn't read the previous page?I’m not sure why we can’t respect what Pearl did and appreciate that we got Barnes after? I know you are happy to point out they don't "hang an ethics banner". Bruce thanks you for pointing out his wonderful time he here he self destroyed. How many coaches after him? He set us back for a while after his tainted exit. So im thankful for Coach Barnes. Bruce didn't have to deal with transfer portal either. So two great coaches in two different roster building/keeping situations.Do we get to hang an ethics banner in FCC? That’s not the point. Pearl got us closer in one try than Barnes has in three. You aren't wrong, but the real question you should be asking is why was Bruce Pearl's name even interjected into a thread titled, "Juke Harris commits to UT!"?I’m not sure why we can’t respect what Pearl did and appreciate that we got Barnes after? I think you can at least agree that Ament had a tremendous impact on our offensive production. Yet, Juke’s numbers were better, so it’s not unreasonable to expect he will have an even greater impact than Ament did last year. You can think what you want, but for myself, I will choose to be stoked about this pickup.I like Ament and think he'll eventually be great. He needs a couple more years to develop. So, slightly better efficiency than Nate is still so-so efficiency. If this guy keeps cranking that many shots but doesn't get better than those numbers, he'll shoot us out of several games. My hope is that he shoots fewer bad shots, more in the flow, and increases efficiency.
Anyhow, the point I made was that the numbers he produced don't seem to warrant the level of enthusiasm in this thread. The numbers you quoted, which of course are numbers I was already referring to, don't alter my opinion on the matter.
It’s absolutely a debate. Pearl has two F4s since Barnes has been at UT. Pearl was much closer to making the F4 at UT than Barnes ever was. Those are all facts. There’s no opinion in those comments. That’s not an attack. Those are facts. I for one hope Barnes breaks the ceiling this year.Barnes has accomplished more, gets more out of his talent, and does it with more integrity. I clicked your name thinking you were someone who just joined to troll. If you’re an actual fan who still salivates over Bruce at this point that’s genuinely embarrassingPlus, Pearl’s Elite 8 team was a 5th seed that was 2 points from the F4. Purdue was the closest Barnes got. The other two were absolute beat downs. I commend Barnes for changing up his player profile, but it’s still in question how his style of coaching will work with this group. If Pearl were coach of this roster, I’d book my F4 tickets.
You have a pretty loose definition of facts. Pearl made one Elite 8 and it hopsin doesn't blow the free throw, we might make it to the first final four. Barnes a shot or 2 from taking PurdueIt’s absolutely a debate. Pearl has two F4s since Barnes has been at UT. Pearl was much closer to making the F4 at UT than Barnes ever was. Those are all facts. Appreciating Barnes run and acknowledging those things aren’t mutually exclusive.
We really shouldn't be celebrating this much for a guy who only chose us over lightweights. When the only other offers were from the reigning national champions and a blue blood who just hired an NBA champion coach, you know you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel.I like what Rick's done in the portal, but to me this thread seems a little over the top for a bulk scorer who isn't a particularly great shooter. 44% over all and 33% on threes is hardly elite. 1:1 assist to turnover likewise.
