Alabama's A.A. WR. Julio Jones and RB Mark Ingram took a little Gulf Coast fishing trip this past spring with 56 year old Curtis Anderson, A GOOD FRIEND---:) Of Julio's-- dating back to Jones's high school days at Foley, Al. UA conducted an investigation, (reason as yet unknown) and found no eligibility violations-- as the cost of the charter trip per person was determined to be less than the $100. limit per NCAA rules; and Mr. Anderson seemingly had no ties to the University--(Was not season ticket holder, booster, or even a fan---:) just a good friend of the two players. The age differential and the purported cost of the trip are suspicious, since I doubt the charter was booked to the necessary level (at $100 per person) for the operator to make a profit and stay within the NCAA limit. I don't think they would want to risk having an Auburn fan aboard---and Tigers are numerous in Gulf Shores, Al. The facts (or lack thereof) will be turned in to the SEC and NCAA. I smell a rotten grouper.:whistling:

"There have been rumors all summer that something was going on with Alabama football players Julio Jones and running back Mark Ingram. Now we know what because of the reporting by Kevin Scarbinsky of the Birmingham News. The NCAA is looking into a fishing trip that the sophomores took with a 56-year-old man who, the school claims and the man claims, has absolutely no connection with the University of Alabama. Alabama claims that Jones had a previous relationship with the man from his days of growing up in Foley, Ala. So when he and Ingram were invited on the trip, Jones accepted an offer from a friend.

If there is no Alabama connection with the man in question, then why is it a story? "

Perhaps in the old days; when Bear was allowed to play fast and loose with the rules. Now, I doubt they cheat more that most programs, especially since they are under the NCAA microscope.

Do you know why they call us UcheaT?

Sorry hat---forgot you were the only one that could post anything worthwhile. It happens to be front page news in my paper today, and there is obviously more to the story than was printed. Furthermore, I don't appreciate you calling me -----anything :banghead2:

So get off your high horse bud. :shaking2:

I'm pretty sure the rumor is that the guy is actually an Auburn fan, but I'm not really sure about any of that.

And I also think they knew each other because Julio had a job in the marina where the guy runs his boat trips or something

Heh heh---even IF that is true, who paid for the trip---which costs a minimum of $800--and that's for a shorty.

he and some others were talking about Julio Jones and another player about an NCAA investigation. It dealt with a deep sea fishing trip and someone "leasing" him and some others a Yucon for $200 per month. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

And yes I know I shouldn't listen to him, but I was bored driving!

From what I understand, Jones used to work at a Gulf Shore pier while in HS... made friends with this guy, and went on a fishing trip with him this summer.

Dunno about the Yukon thing.

Dan Sileo, former player for the Miami Hurricanes and now Tampa radio host, said he and other players called some of the bigger games "hundred dollar games" because they knew that certain alumni were going to pass them a hundred dollar bill on their way to the stadium.

This went on all the time and I think it still does just about everywhere. At any major program, with 85 players, at least one of them, at some point, is getting either outright paid or some sort of favor of this type.

A kid went on a fishing trip with an old man/family friend. It seems to me that this is the kind of behavior that we want to support our kids doing.

In all honesty, and as much as I hate Bama; it was a damn fishing trip. The NCAA can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.

I doubt he was an old friend. He was quoted on SI.com that he had no idea who Julio or Ingram were and that he had no idea they played football.

Sounds sinister:

"The 56-year-old Anderson said he's not a football fan and denied initially even knowing that Jones and Ingram played football.

"When I was told, 'This is Julio Jones,' I said, 'Whoopty-do,"' Anderson told The Birmingham News. "I had no idea who Julio Jones was. I've got my right hand on this Bible. I swear to Jesus Christ, I had no idea who Julio Jones and Mark Ingram were when I met them and they became friends of mine.

"I didn't know for weeks and months."

.......

"Anderson owns Eagle Wholesale Supply in Athens. He paid for a fishing charter in the spring with Jones and Ingram.

He said his physical ailments include degenerative disk disease, and that he has been through six major operations. The players helped him onboard the boat, he said.

"I didn't carry them fishing," Anderson said. "They carried me fishing. I can't even stand up by myself."

He said he hadn't been able to go fishing in seven years before the trip with Jones and Ingram.

"I wanted to go one more time," Anderson said. "I said, 'If I can get a hook in one fish, I'll be happy."'

So, let me get this straight ... I can go to this marina and book me an all-day offshore fishing trip for only $100? That'd be a pretty good deal (ice, bait, equivalent of boat rental, paying captain and crew and FUEL) :eek:hmy:
