Jumpin them sideline routes

How many did they actually break up? From what I remember they picked up 6 or 7 yards every single time. The thing is, they run them to either side with about equal attempts. It is most likely a pre-snap read based on the defensive alignment. If one side has a corner playing off, quick screen that way. It is one time that the velocity on Milton's passes is a major benefit. The ball makes it almost to the sideline before the defense can even react. You are correct that they came close on 1. That was 1 out of the 20-25 they ran. Would you complain about predictability if they ran it up the middle for a 7 yard gain time after time after time? probably not.

Pick 6s upcoming if we keep throwing them sideline routes. UTSA almost jumped one. Predictable is an understatement.
I think when it’s executed well, it’s a pretty effective play. But I agree they’ve become too predictable.

SCar's DBs will be all over us. If that play calling continues, I'm afraid we will be embarrassed at home.

He wasn’t expecting that much of a FAST BALL or it would have been housed.
Through his hands before he knew it… 💨

I know we are going to keep throwing screens and sometimes they are effective. My biggest complaint is I think we need to make some of them screens runs. I think this will help screens and downfield plays. How about a wheel route with Sampson or any of our backs. I would back off screens a little and add runs. We get a little screen happy and like someone said we are going to get picked. How about faking the screen now and then. Hopefully they will see this, we have to recognize them jumping screens, teams are going to start trying to jump them at some point. We need to bait them not the other way around. GBO

I agree it is predictable, but until someone actually stops it CJH is gonna continue leaning on it, especially if the defense is playing the deep ball.

That is one reason this is as effective as it is. Milton’s arm is strong enough to get the pass all the way to the sideline before the defense can react. It becomes a really long handoff. As of right now we are getting 5-7 yards every time we run it. It can go to either side on any play. You guys keep saying it is predictable, but so far there has been one close call on a break up. We have run it, what, 70 times. Please tell me what logic makes you believe a nearly guaranteed 5 yard gain every time it is run is a bad thing? BTW, Alto1, this isn't a knock on your post, but I am agreeing with your statement and building on it.

What about an option designed play, I don’t think the coaching staff has a damn clue what that is. I would love to see a pitchout to Sampson!

UTSA either saw something on film, or their defense baited Milton into making that throw. Either one is cause for concern.

We've been throwing them for 3 yrs. None of Georgia, Florida, Clemson, Bama picked one off. That's how you get beat defensively.
Agreed they may jump one a game but as soon as they do we will burn them with a deep ball. Peoples lack of knowledge on scheme is comical on this board.

In our offense we run the ball when we have the numbers. If we don't have the numbers we're passing. That screen is an extension of the run game. As long as teams are trying to play off coverage keep doing it.

The frustrating thing is that UT doesn't do it to opponents. Part of the benefit of getting pressure up front is that you can get picks by predicting and jumping short safety routes. Instead, Banks typically gives a 5+ yd cushion. Very frustrating to watch.

FWIW... what is probably coming is a go route off a fake WR screen. Not needed vs UTSA.
