Seriously. There should be a sign up sheet for this. There really are people out there who would love to do jury duty. I told a friend I was having to deal with this and he was like, "I'd like to try that, it could be interesting". If only I could offer him up in my place.

I was actually interested in doing it. But once I'd finished I realized why people avoided it. I had a civil trial so no lunch provided and no fridge to keep one in. That really hacked off the older people on fixed income because they had to buy their lunch every day. And we had to pay for parking.

To be fair, do you not think that the average person can see through bullshiite? You don't need to be an attorney to figure out someone is blowing smoke.

You would be surprised. But the point is that we see these "stories" on a daily basis. It's just a part of the job that others don't experience.

Attorneys don't necessarily want people who love to have jury duty.

I'm not saying an individual should be allowed to become a "professional juror" by any means. I'm just saying instead of forcing average, law abiding citizens, who are minding their own business to show up for jury duty by way of a summons OR ELSE they ought to take a different approach. It's rude and intrusive. I just think there should be an option for those who have never served before, who are truly interested in doing so to be able to volunteer or opt-in.

You realize that people are supposed to be judged by a jury of their peers right? What if all of their peers say F it and say I've got to work today let someone else do it? You end up with some old guy like me with a preconceived bias. That's not fair to the defendant and not the spirit of the law.
You force people to serve so that you get a fair jury and trial.
