Don't overreact to the question, but is anyone else starting to notice red flags go up with this current staff? Im not saying they won't be successful here but there are some things I've seen that make me kind of question whether they will or not

Very few first years coaches or staffs are successful. The real test will be second year. And If you look at Jones pay his second year is typically much better. 8 or 9 wins.

So I hold judgement.

You mean like recruiting a top-tier recruiting class right out of the gate?

Yeah, we almost blew the game, but let's stop jumping to conclusions through a few games. If Butch is going 5-7 two years from now, then we'll have reason to worry. As far as things go this year, if we went 6-6 and made a bowl game, we'll be beating expectations. Honestly, I'm not totally convinced that we wouldn't be 1-4 right now if Dooley were still coach.

This is the best staff in the country, Butch said so. Trust him he gets it. We ran across a power house that almost beat Southern Utah!

Anybody know what Tiny was so pissed about the last play of the game? Did somebody go after his knees or something?

Top tier?

Loi's already signed?

I thought (as well as many on here back in the spring) that we were going to scheme to our strengths - not on the coaches desire for offensive finesse. We haven't done that. I find it hard to believe that we couldn't scheme our way into better situations offensively. If this on-the-field product (last 3 games) is an indicator of the rest of the season, I may have to go back and eat seriously, rare crow meat to all those claiming a "no better than 5-7 season" in the spring/summer. I thought we'd go 6-6 at least maybe 7-5 with a break or two.

Too soon to tell.

I would have liked to have seen a little more by now, but clearly the roster is very limited in some positions.

The defensive coaching staff was suspect coming in, and has done nothing upgrade its status.

Just my observation but I felt like the coaching staff was able to turn it around after a slow start today which was positive. Worley just wet the bed in the second half and couldn't sustain a drive to keep the defense off the field.

If you don't see red flags with this staff then you are either delusional or blind.

I'm not totally sold on our defensive coaches, but at the same time, this year's D is a dramatic improvement from last year. Last year's D would have given up 45 to this team, and certainly wouldn't have made the end-game stop that this team pulled out.

You're delusional.

You Dooley haters/Butch lovers have backed yourselves into a corner. You blamed Dooley because his teams couldn't beat anyone and the D sucked.

So Butch is hired and all off-season this place is buzzing with Butch Mania. You all were even making fun of Dooley's "Year 0". Well, here we are and it looks a lot worse than 2012.

Now, you're saying the cupboard is bare on D and you can't expect Butch to win with these players.

So you bash Dooley and defend Butch for the same thing?

By the way, I thought it was time for Dooley to go.

I can't put it on Butch for not having the talent coming in to his first yr. We have a pretty good team but our major problem is we don't have a QB that's worth a crap Worley is the biggest down fall for this team today. He just Sucked it up bad

This! All the same hype surrounded Dooley his first year.

Been a problem for this team for years now.

The offense has to help the D. When you turn the ball over and have back to back to back 3 and outs, that is not helping the D at all. You could see that the D was getting tired at the end of the game. When it got down to the end they sucked it up and made a stop to win it. That alone is an improvement from what we have seen in the past few years.

One positive I saw in the game was the fake FG that would have worked had it not been for the false start. Good call, screwed up. Then, UT manages to block their own FG. Only Tennessee......Only Tennessee.

Last year we had a "lights-out" offense. But a defense that couldn't spell football.

This year, our offensive line should be selling Girl Scout cookies while Worley takes up non-contact badminton and our defense makes some interesting stops/adjustments/takeaways when needed (in most games).

Why can't we have a single season where we're decent on both sides of the ball? Are the football gods still ticked at what UT did in 2008?
