So you’re giving reasons, if not excuses why both Saban and Smart had wildly successful second year recruiting classes.......but it still doesn’t change the ironclad fact that their top-rated classes were much better than our current #16 class in Pruitt’s second season. Fact is, it’s a good, not great class that doesn’t make up any ground whatsoever in the talent disparity that we are on the short end of vs Alabama and Georgia. Hopefully this class improves the team so that we can soon start beating SCar, Vandy and Missouri....but it does very little to nothing to help get us closer to an equal footing with UGA, Bama and Florida.Comparing apples to oranges imo...UGA is an easier place to recruit with their in-state talent. They were consistently recruiting Top 10 classes (think the average recruiting classes was #6 before Smart got there) so they already had a lot of talent. Saban had a championship as a HC prior to coming to Bama so he could sell that, and they weren’t as lacking in the combination of S&C and talent/depth as we were. Not to mention coming off the worst season in program history.
Neither coach had to sell back to back losing seasonsThis class is ok, nothing special, outside of the OL position. Middle of the pack in the SEC. Also, recall how both Saban and Smart fared with their second recruiting classes....both were #1 in the country iirc. We currently sit at 16th on 247 with very litttle to no chance of cracking the top 10.

Those were the two most competitive 26-point losses in the history of organized conflict. Truly they were edge-of-the-seat affairs from start to finish. In your defense, OD, I think we played a great game against UGA on the road all things considered. We just ran out of gas towards the end, especially in the front 7. We had a chance to steal that one. The turnovers against Florida really sucked the life out of that game for us moreso than them out right beating us. It’s a much closer game without those and who knows who wins.
I agree. I was just saying we were in a worse situation than both of those programs. And KB is giving facts. This class is good, but like he said middle of the pack for the SEC. We have to hope that the players Pruitt brings in plays up to their potential and buy in completely to his vision. We also have to hope that Pruitt and the staff can do their best to coach these guys up and develop them at an elite level. This class along with last years puts us behind in the East. Florida is getting recruiting going with Mullen. That does not bode well for us.
We’ve got more too end talent in the class than I’ve seen in a long, long time (I’m including Wright in that accessment, sue me). I have full faith in Pruitt and staff to coach the 3*s into 4*s etc. I think we’re in for a fun ride and I’m going to have a ball bashing the band wagoners when the day comes.
U really should ask yourself, was this post I just made necessary??This class is ok, nothing special, outside of the OL position. Middle of the pack in the SEC. If we just land Moore and Wright that would put us at a score of 270 which would put us top 10 in most classes including the last two years. “Littttttttle to no chance” yea okThis class is ok, nothing special, outside of the OL position. If we want to be serious SEC contenders, we need to consistently recruit top 5. Not many schools have to play Alabama, Georgia, and Florida every year. We are in a "Feast or Famine" situation here. We either have to be elite, or we'll be mediocre to bad. Our schedule wont allow for anything else.I think we have all seen enough to know that anytime you can recruit in the top 10-15 you can be successful if you develop players well. With CJP and CJC - check. People forget that Clemson had two classes in the past five that were not in the Top 10.
