Just an offseason observation, but the QB's we face this year will be much weaker

There is a lot of hype surrounding Coker, but, from what I saw of him in limited viewing... He reminds me of a well-coached Jonathan Crompton.

The kid can play... as could Crompton, but he won't be the super star everyone makes him out to be.

By the Third Saturday in October, QB's of all calibers will be struggling against the Vol D.

Mauk sucks too.. I know we don't play them, but it's laughable the pub that Dak Prescott is getting.. QB play is way down this year

according to all the talking heads on TV/Radio Jacob Coker is already the greatest QB to ever live. Sure is alot of stock being put into a guy who has thrown like 40 career passes.

Mauk made big plays but he threw for a worse percentage than Worley and Dobbs. He got bailed out alot with those weapons. what happens to him when you take away DGB, Washington,Lucas, Waters, and Josey? Also lost the whole left side of his OL.

Robinnette scored the game winning TD...so he helped beat us

Our non-existent pass rush and slow secondary allowed Robinette to look much better than he actually was. If we can get a pass rush this season our secondary will look worlds better than it did last season.

27th in the country in passing yards allowed per game for the secondary. 100th in Run Defense. The run defense really needs to improve in a big way. I know we played some nasty offenses but still. 100th in the country is not acceptable.

That is good work and I haven't really looked at it that way. I have a feeling UGA's ground game is going to be ridiculous with the three backs they have.

if their healthy. Their O Line is a concern as well. But the bigger question is Gurley and Marshalls health. If their healthy it will be tough to stop them. Their receivers are talented. Their secondary is not.

Than any we've faced in the past few years. Chuckie Keeton will be among the better QB's, and wouldn't have broken the top 5 last year. This could pay dividends for our young, talented secondary.

We're trading:

-Aaron Murray for Hudson Mason

-AJ McCarron for Jacob Coker

-Connor Shaw for Dillon Thompson

-Nick Marshall for Bo Wallace

-Marcus Mariotta for Trevor Knight

-Austyn Carta-Samuels for not really sure who

That's all I can think of at the moment, but at least since 2010 we've consistently faced stellar QB's. The only ones that at this moment are worth concern are Maty Mauk, Trevor Knight, and maybe Chuckie Keeton. The rest are either a downgrade or have spent little to no time on a college field. Just looks like a much better situation.

Jacob Coker and Dillon Thompson are both upgrades.

Good point about the quality of QBs that have departed but, I am always more concerned about the quality of the opposing coaches we face.

No sir the refs won that game I was there!

Or not making a stop on a 90 yard drive at the end of the game. We had every opportunity to win that game, the refs did not cost UT the game. Side note I think UT blasts UGA on the road this year. GBO!

This is just completely incorrect. People highly undervalue Shaw's worth for SC. Doesn't he have the best record in SC QB history? He didn't throw a single interception until our late-season game last year, and I'm pretty sure he is close to undefeated at home.

Where in the world do you gather that Dillon Thompson is an upgrade? He came into our game last year and looked like a scared puppy. He couldn't move the ball on us to save his life.

And the McCarron vs. Coker statement doesn't deserve a rebuttal.

27th in passing yards allowed simply because offenses didn't need to throw the ball that often. When they did they we couldn't stop them. Case in point being Robinette on Vandy's last series. Same thing in the UGA game when Murray had all day to throw on that last series. And I agree that our run defense has not been acceptable, not just last season, but the last 3-4 seasons, but this thread was really about whether there is going to be a downgrade in the opposing QBs. That won't be the case with opposing RBs, as the league continues to be loaded. Our youngsters coming in will have to mature in a hurry, plus we have to hope Saulsberry returns 100% (and returns to the form he was playing) and guys like O'Brien will need to step up big time.

Coker came out the same year as Worley, he was rated by all the major services lower than Worley. Coker has good size and a decent arm. I watched him in the FSU Spring game when he competed against Winston for the starting position, he completed less than half of his passes. He still needs a lot of developing in my opinion. If he's the starter at Bama this season they will be taking a huge step backwards from what they are accustom to seeing from the QB position.

I think we can win the SEC East for real! Only team I think that stands in our way, considering our schedule, is South Carolina in Columbia.

Florida is at home
Mizzou is at home
UGA isn't really all that tough to win at
then there's Candy and Kensucky

I really like our chances

All but one of those teams are currently on at least a 2 game winning streak against us.

FL 9-0
MIZ 2-0
UGA 4-0
VAN 2-0

I think we may still be a good ways away from playing for the SEC title in Atlanta.

Actually with Sony Micheal they have 4 great RBs. I figure 85% chance Gurley goes pro and Marshall is a great season from declaring as well. So GA may try and redshirt both Chub and Sony. But Chub is so good just like the beer "Old Chub!"

We're trading:

-Aaron Murray for Hudson Mason, downgrade

-AJ McCarron for Jacob Coker (this guy is highly touted...we'll see): AJ was a great game manager with an above average arm.

-Connor Shaw for Dillon Thompson, Dillon has a better arm but Connor was a better leader and competitor...he had intense determination.

-Nick Marshall for Bo Wallace, Bo is a better passer and a good runner but can get rattled.

-Marcus Mariotta for Trevor Knight, Obvious downgrade. Bell had one good game...his last and I won't be surprised if Bell comes back to QB.

-Austyn Carta-Samuels for Robinette.e is probably a little better than ACS.
-Keeton, coming off major injury.

-Mauk, at least as talented as Franklin but lost top 3 targets.

-UK will have an upgrade in overall talent and at QB. We recruited better though.

-Driscoll coming off broken leg, should affect his scrambling. New OC and scheme, both good and bad to that.

Imagine me rolling my eyes at another post that celebrates a perceived addition by subtraction. I could care less who the QBs of the Vol's opponents are. I am much more concerned with who steps up in Orange, and that they play better than all the bums in other uniforms.
