Went to Augusta National for the Monday practice round and I can honestly say it was the best sports experience I've ever been to...upon getting on the course I felt like I was in golf heaven....TV doesn't come close to showcasing how great of a place it is

Got there at about 7:15 am and headed to the merchandise shop right away...$500 later I made my way to Amen Corner....this area of the golf course was far and away the most amazing part of it...it was almost like you were on a movie set it was just incredible...the one thing you notice right away is how there is ABSOLUTELY NO ROUGH at Augusta National...the 2nd cut is pretty much the fairway...saw the area where Phil hit the approach shot onto 13 and just imagined how cool it would've been to be there to see it....after seeing the spot he hit it, that shot has to go down as one of the best ever

After Amen Corner I went to the area where the clubhouse is....18 green is just 30 yards behind the clubhouse and man what a hole 18 is...looking from behind 18 tee you can see why pros struggle there on Sundays in crunch time...one thing that surprised me is just how close the gallery is around some of the greens, especially 9 and 18....there's not but 5 yards on 9 and about 7-8 yards on 18

The new driving range was a great place to watch the pros and just appreciate how good they are...you don't really get to see on TV how amazing they are hitting their drivers and woods...they have new bleachers there that were a great place to watch a ton of the pros show us amateurs how it's done

The layout of the course is also very interesting....you can pretty much get to any hole in about 5-10 minutes, as you can walk across nearly all of the holes' fairways...another thing TV doesn't show is how hilly the course is...I can't remember but only a few holes being fairly flat

One thing that stood out is just how hard every hole at Augusta looks....once again the TVs don't come close to showcasing this aspect...you really appreicate how good they are after watching them play incredibly difficult holes

All of the food and drinks were really cheap, which was something you don't really expect at a professional sporting event

Overall going to the practice round was just amazing...for those that haven't been you're really missing out on seeing the mecca of golf...go on Masters.com and apply for both practice and tournament tickets...after going I know for the rest of my life I will do everything I can to be there in April every year

I remember seeing the 6th green & wondering how it was even playable.

Glad you had fun 58. Seeing the Masters live was the greatest time of my life, so far.

After you go a couple of times, you learn to leave gradually instead of just getting up and walking to the parking lot. At the end of the day, the walk from Amen Corner back up between 10/18 is flat out brutal.

Can this thread merge with the masters tickets? Thanks to TNVols58 for the observations.

I have been twice (2002 and 2005). I will never forget walking out to #1 and seeing how perfect the fairway was. It was unbelievable. Everything was awesome.

Both times I have been it was on Wednesday. The first time Wednesday was a little much with the par 3 tournament. It was hard to see everything we wanted to see on the course and get to the par 3 and get a good seat.

2 things that still stand out to me and I will never forget. #1 - how beautiful the place was. #2 - how close you actually get to the players. I remember standing behind one of the greens at the ropes and if I wanted to I could have slapped Tiger in the back of the head. I didn't, I just snapped a few pictures of him.

I saw every golfer I wanted to see except Nicklaus. I wish I had seen him somewhere. I saw Arnie and Player. That was cool. Watching Palmer hit balls on the range was unbelievable. He was a 70-something year old man that was placing ball after ball in the same place. Simply amazing at how good he still hit it. Granted, he can't keep up with the younger players off the tee any more but the man still hit is amazingly well.

Hey, thanks a lot for the rundown. If you play golf at all...the Masters is one thing everybody should at least try (very hard) to do in their life. I haven't been. My son has.

Other tournaments I've been to you could actually get closer to players than Augusta.

I was there Saturday. Every single player basically walked through the crowd to get to the putting green from the clunhouse and then from the putting green to the first tee. Also, there were several other times when players were going from greens to the next tee that they would be within a few feet.

I'm guessing that you attended a tournament and one of the players gave you a piggy back ride?

Lol. I'm sorry if I ruined your Augusta experience. Wasn't my intention I was just saying. Most other tourneys you're not restricted to 1 side of a fairway or over 100yds away from a green. Every tour event has guys close to the gallery. I went to a nationwide tour event when it use to be the buy.com tour at verdae greens in Greenville, SC & we literally walked the fairway with the guys & helping find balls they hit in the rough & trees. I remember Chris Smith was playing & he can flat out crush the ball.

Not sure how you came up with thinking you ruined my experience. Please do not flatter yourself.

LOL, at you comparing Augusta National and a PGA Tour Major with the Nationwide tour. Congrats dude. I wouldn't pay for a Nationwide Tour ticket with the dump I took this morning.

And you've obviously never been to Augusta if you think they keep people on one side of the fairway or 100 yards from the green.

I agree, just felt the need to point out the absurdity of his drivel...

lots of guys on the Nationwide can play though. you can get really close to some good golf. not Masters level, obviously.

i think BPV said once that at the US Amateur there's no ropes.

Lots of guys in the NBDL can play as well but I'd rather stare at a wall.

Oh my sincere apologies for not realizing you were specifically referring to holes 12 and 13 with your all inclusive comment.

I wasn't bad mouthing Augusta just saying it limits your viewing & how close you are as compared to other tournaments. The bleachers are your best vantage point a lot of times at Augusta & i don't care to watch golf like that & sit at 1 hole. I like to walk & see every hole as best I can. I like to watch guys on the tee & see how they grip the club & set up to the ball & watch their ball flight. Holes 7 & 15 are good for that so I may watch 3 or 4 groups come through & go somewhere else.

This I can agree with.

I stood between 1 and 9 for the morning to watch them hit into 9 and tee of on 1 and then walked with Tiger for his first 12. The course is a ***** to walk and try to follow someone. You must stay out ahead or you'll miss 50% of the shots. My back was killing me on Sunday...

I absolutely won't follow anybody for more than a couple of shots at Augusta. It's so hilly and so crowded that you'll make yourself miserable.
