Just had surgery....

It's nothing really. I heard my skull bounce off a sidewalk at least once during a rollover bike crash. That was followed by a guy near me who proceeded to say in some sort of amazement, "I heard your head hit the pavement."

A bit different than being cut open and having someone literally scrape something off your skull.

It was something. Since the lipoma was on the skull and not the muscle , they had to cut through the skin, the muscle, and luckily save the nerve. He cut and pulled in the lipoma to dislodge it and once he did, he came back with what looked like a square spoon and scrapped the remaining stuff off my skull before sewing it back up.

I was referring to the sound more so than the procedure. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it was no walk in the park by any means.

True, but I'd have rather had the surgeon make the sound than the sidewalk. :)

I don't have any groty surgery stories to tell but I just gotta say, that last drug they push into you before they wheel you in -- how awesome is that?

Funny story there, one surgery I had, they give me that nirvana shot and start wheeling me to the OR, telling me what to expect, and I say in that high as hell slur, "If I should begin to drool... please do not stop me."

Still have no idea what that meant but I think it's funny as hell.

Had my knee done and when I woke up they let me know they had done a more involved procedure and I had to come back the following week to have another surgery. So they poked the probes back through the same holes as a few days before just to make sure it was going to be extra sore

They give a nerve block so nothing hurts for 24hrs but after that it was really painful. That was my 3rd (and 4th) knee surgery and it was by far the worst. Although after 2-3 days it felt fine even without pain meds. Kept those for future hangovers :whistling:

Lol
Versed doesn't make me happy enough. I feel buzzed on it but I still know everything that's going on.

Had 2 back surgeries. First one wasn't too bad.

2nd one, they added titanium rods and screws at the first 3 vertebrae above my tailbone. Cutting through the muscle wasn't all that bad but the damage that the bone fragments had done to the sciatic nerve running down my left leg took weeks to start to heal even after surgery. I call it being struck by lightning, seemingly every nerve from my lower back all the way to my heel would fire sharp sharp pain at the same time. I couldn't walk. I would scream because I couldn't help it when i.was struck, and I am a grown man.

When I was in the hospital recovering from surgery ,right after I woke up, they decided to use a nurse trainee to give me my morphine..which is a crappy painkiller anyway. She screwed the syringe into my IV improperly and when she squeezed it, the morphine shot down my forearm and onto the bed. She missed. I was mortified. I looked at the head nurse and asked her when she would be back with my pain m3dicine...she said that she didn't see how much was wasted and therefore couldn't give me more. I laid there for 4 hours in the middle of the night with tears rolling silently down my cheeks waiting for my next dose. I never could get caught up to the pain while in the Hospital. It's a maintenance thing, you can't catch up from behind pain because they won't give you enough med to catch up.

36 hours later when I pulled the IV out of my own arm and left the hospital, I got home and ate 6 percoset 10z in about an hour. I slept for the first time in 2 days because I broke the pain. I will never return to that hospital. Ever. That was torture . Sorry for the long post.

Man rough stuff for sure, and I understand your comments regarding sciatic nerve pain. Had a back issue that lead to a pinched nerve that caused the sciatic nerve to fire off the most intense pain I have ever encountered. This went on for a couple of weeks, meds only hid the pain some, hot baths helped, but mostly just laying flat on the floor minimized the pain. Spent 4 weeks in back therapy (I fought the doctor who was suggesting surgery). I have learned, since then, how to properly lift heavy objects.

I probably would have told them to get the damn tube out of my throat, give me a cheeseburger and I'll swallow.

That wasn't surgery he was having and it definitely wasn't a breathing tube they wanted him to swallow.

I'm going under the knife on the 29th for a plantar plate repair on my right foot 2nd metatarsal. I tore the plantar plate back in September of last year playing flag football and it has taken this long to get the surgery. Now my 2nd toe draws over to my big toe and it never touches the ground now.

The surgery seems horrendous when he explained it. Here is a link to a video explanation of the surgery I'll be having:https://youtu.be/P9HvtNTn2TA

I'm really dreading this more and more the closer it gets. I also suffer from anxiety and panic disorder, so that certainly doesn't help matters. Anywho, I'm posting a picture of what my toe looks like now since the injury too. It is quite crazy lol.

Sorry to hear you have to go through this!
I hope you have a speedy recovery and your anxiety improves.

On a better note, maybe I can ease your panicking and anxiety.
I work for a medical engineering and manufacturing company that does the contract work for Paragon 28(28 bones in the foot) and Medtronic
We make the drill guides,drill bits,bone tamps,reamers, taps, screws,nut drivers/torx, calipers,rulers, bone plates,spinal implants,etc.

We take great care in engineering and manufacturing these implants and instruments.
They are of extremely high quality and our scrap rate is extremely low and 100% quality inspection/ assurance

It's quite amazing what can be done to repair injuries and get people back to normal.(atleast as close they can get to 100%)

My main point is as a machinist I don't get to see the end result or hear testimonials about patients.
We take our jobs extremely seriously and everything we do is monitored and recorded. Even our tools can't have any latex due to the concern for latex allergies.

Our motto is "when you touch the part you touch the patient" so during our processes we handle even the stock material with great care and let nothing questionable out.

I hope you have an easy stress free surgery. Good luck!
