Just how bad has it been for the player?

Why weren't the players this bad last year, then? We have the same guys who have an additional year under their belts, and arguably more talent in some positions What's changed?

These guys are consistently out of position and are getting burned almost every single time. You're right in saying the players need to execute - but what if they're not being taught to execute correctly? You don't just become the statistically worst defense in America because the players aren't doing their jobs. They're not doing their jobs because they don't know what their jobs are, and it shows. See: 4th and 12, 4th quarter, Missouri
See 3rd & 16 against MSU. Waggner in coverage. Got beat. We were up 7-3 and could have went up 14-3. Different game. See Teague on all 3 scores he gave up against Florida (and caused Randolph to get hurt on the last one). He is the edge of the defense. That is as important as the safety. He gave it up all three times. 27 yard run. 80 yard run. 75 yard pass. ALL TD's. See AJ not covering his pass routes last year, see him not doing it this year. Lathers sucks in coverage too. Byron Moore is horrible at safety. He has blown WAY too many coverages. He has missed 7 picks that should be gimmes for a safety. We had better defensive end play last year. They are not really getting anything from anyone consistently when you really look at it. Guys might have 12 tackles but that is misleading. 3 and 4 and you give up a seven yard run, who cares if you rack up tackles?

Sunseri plays a post safety defense. Whether in 3/4 or 4/3. It is man to man. Blow a gap, lose contain, or blow a gap at the same time contain is lost and you will give up a score. Long scores depending on field position. Wicox played a different style. These same players that sucked last year are still sucking this year. In the Wilcox defense you just die slower. But we still died. The constant is the players. And our record in big games.

Dooley is out & Sal is out. Delusional to argue otherwise. But these players are equally at fault. You can't hide ability. If you can play, you can play. A coach can't keep you from looking across the line of scrimmage and seeing your man and guarding him. I won't buy that one. That is on the player. All day. People sure as hell have not left JH & CP open. Why do we?

Sal has not forgot defensive football. The schemes work on paper. To make it work on the field it requires players to learn it and execute it.
Look at P Swag's pick against Mizzou. That was perfect technique. Why not play that way all year? Why so inconsistent? Because of Sal? Hogwash. Three years of losing warrants change. But the losing will continue if we get the same level of committment and dedication from the players. Making the same mistakes over and over again is not being coached by the coaches, imo.

The coaches are supposed to get the most out of their players. Sal and Dooley have failed to do that plain and simple.

No one coaches that obviously. The coaches job is to get that high level if commitment and dedication from the players? You think Alabama just has all their players coming in with a saban level mindset or he has to help them develop that? Does saban just recruit those type of players better? No and no. The coaching staff doesn't have a plan he players truly have bought into this system and never will unless they have someone extract their potential. Ya know? What coaches are supposed to do.
You can't go on the field and do it for them. Sunseri's linebackers were not blowing coverages last year. The year before either. These are because they suck. Coaches make calls. Players make plays.

And they will be fired as a result.
That does nothing to absolve the players of their terrible play though. At some point you just stick a guy and cover him. Man up. Regardless of coaching. Unless you contend they are being coached to not cover. Or they haven't been taught how. Both of which I disagree with.

As always, you miss the point. With a good coach, we will get the best out of the players.

I agree the players deserve blame though.
