Just how good is Ichiro?

Messed up stat of the day:

Here's how bad the Mariners are. Among players who qualified for the batting title, Ichiro led the AL in hits but he scored less runs than the guy with the fewest hits in the NL.

Wow. Had to read that 3 times before it sunk in..Ridiculous stat.

for those that use his lack of RBIs against him, that's not entirely his fault. He's batting .327 w/ RISP, .348 with RISP and two outs and an unreal .427 with the bases loaded for his career. Can't fault him that A. he's a leadoff hitter and B. he's the only Mariner that knows how to get on base regularly. He may not be a power hitter, but honestly, I'd want him in my outfield if I got to handpick any three outfielders. I can find guys to get him in.

Any of you guys ever seen Ichiro take BP?

If the man wanted to, he could take 50 points off of his batting average and hit 40 HR's per year.

I don't know about 40, but he could hit 25.

Easily a HOF IMO.....borderline great player. Playing in Seattle probably doesn't help him any.

Never does. Seattle is one of those places where you'd have to do twice as well as in New York or Philly to get the same level of recognition.

I'm not normally one of those "east coast bias" people (not anymore, anyways) but I do think the majority of the baseball media pays little mind to what goes on west of the Mississippi.

Especially when the team sucks like the Mariners do.
