Any comments to share From Bernard King? Wasn't he the featured speaker? No real freeness of speech on his part to comment on the criminal element considering he was quite the criminal himself while he was here.
Nothing terribly noteworthy. If you've heard speeches or interviews from Bernard since he began coming back to Knoxville more frequently, there was nothing new.

This is one area where I actually agree with Cowherd...

I can give a football coach a pass in areas like this for an isolated incident. A basketball coach has as many assistants as players, and should know what the hell is going on with his players. Especially with the number of players involved here.

I am not connected so I am only hunching but doesnt the above statement only hold true if these guys are all thugs and ****ty people and not college kids who made a mistake one time?

It's a hell of a lot easier for a coach to control and manage 12 athletes compared to 100 athletes in a basketball vs. football standpoint. Very successful programs don't have these problems all too often

Actually you are comparing two different things here. Are we supposed to get the athletes that very successful programs recruit? If I has a 1500 SAT, 4.0 GPA and averaged 30pts do you think I am considering UT?

We are dealing with mid-to-high tier athletes and that is all. We don't get the elite kids every year and have our pick with who we feel we should accept.

BUT I WILL GIVE YOU SOME

Redick charged with DWI in 2006
Kansas basketball program involved in campus fight
Devendord domestic incident
Mornigstar arrested with DWI
Dozier, Taggart, Shawne WIlliams, Jeff Robinson memphis tigers all get in trouble
UNC recruit gets community srvc and probation for possesion of marijuan

Do you have any other top Basketball programs??

Since when were, "thugs and ****ty people" and "college kids who make a mistake" mutually exclusive of one another?

It's hard to imagine that you've either watched much men's bball over the last 3-4 years or read a newspaper in the last week without gaining some awareness that single person can be a thug, a ****ty person, a college student and make mistakes.

I don't understand how in the world Pearl can be criticized for a bunch of knuckleheads with guns in their cars joy riding around. Is he supposed to search every car and randomly strip search them on campus and at practice. It is one thing to know if they are talking to an agent or accepting money, but a gun in their vehicle....that is ALL on the players. I don't think any of them should be kicked off the team, so being dumb 18-22 year olds, which we are were or are at some point, but they should be punished. However, saying Pearl should have known this is just plain ridiculous.

We haven't had these problems all too often either. We've had dismissals, and ex-players that committed crimes, but nothing like this. I wouldn't call us very successful though.

Uh, Ramar Smith? The "stolen" car fiasco of a couple years back?

Pear is bringing in higher risk players than many other schools, this is fact and in part due to the fact that we have no real basketball tradition or banners to lure UPSTANDING young prospects to play for us here. If Pearl wants to compete at a higher level he has to take chances on most of his guys, coaches do look into these players backgrounds. Many of the prospects Pearl will pull in will have been past over by the big boys because they are considered risky.

Pearl has made his bed and this is the result. He has higher risk kids on his team than comparable programs talent wise.

Pearl can't babysit players if they want to drive around, smoke weed, drink booze and pack heat.

They are playing well right now.

There were a couple ways this team could have responded to everything that went down.

Up to this point, they have responded very well.

I truly believe Coach Pearl is hurting deep inside over this...moving on: the players are accountable for themselves and no one is to blame but them.
Actually this may help the club be more focused and come together as a real team; not just some ball-hawking "I'm the guy" BS. Remember also there are less people to have to contend with "playing minutes".
Whatever, it'll work out. Have a little faith.
GO VOLS!

I'm just waiting to see how long it takes the fairweather simpletons who got sucked in by the Pearl sham to chisel the egg off their faces for saying the reason they didn't support Jerry Green's teams is that they were filled with "thugs." I assume those idiots will be holding a ticket burning bonfire outside TBA tonight.

would it kill you to be positive .your poor attitude sucks it the same ole same ole again from you.:whatever:

I totally agree, man! Totally.

The only people I hate worse than those stinkin' thinkin' folks are those others who begin spewing nonsense before the e-mail with their account verification has hit their inbox.

I detest those people.

But I'm with you, brother, all the way.
