Just listened to Heupels post game press conference.

After having a couple of hours to cool off and reflect (and bask in the absolute JOY of a Bama loss (at Bryant Denny even)), I am feeling like this was a team that just wasn’t mentally prepared to play. I am sure Heupel warned them against this mindset pre game; but I have the sense that some members of this team still think football excellence is something you can just „turn on“ like a light switch after kickoff. I am hoping this will be a wake-up call. You have to be dialed in and focused going into game day and we clearly were not. Heupel I am sure knows where the problems lie and will take the necessary steps to deal with them.
But yeah, this game does not give me the warm fuzzies going into Florida week.

That would kinda surprise me, as I was often commenting last year how you could tell the whole “the most important game on our schedule is the one we have this week” wasn’t simply a catch phrase but how they actually approached each game (see the UT Martin game for evidence). While it is possible that success from last year makes them feel that is no longer the case that would surprise me due to the leadership from coaches and upperclassmen; I do wonder if they are trying to hard to over perform at times rather than just relaxing and having fun like they did last year.

Also, will be pulling for coach Golesh to make it 2 losses in a row little Nicky for next week!

I thought offensive line play was far more concerning than QB play. They got whipped in the second half especially pass blocking but the rushing yards were a little harder to come by too.
It's easy to "whip" an oline just by shear numbers
When you don't, or can't, throw it why worry about it?
Just send 6+ against 5 olinemen

It seems like Saturday had a planned script of 2-3 drives of some vanilla but downfield offense, then run and screen (extension of the run), a normal drive for Nico, then back to running the clock.

Then we started with Milton missing some throws and the receivers dropping the ones he did hit. I don’t think the coaches wanted to show UF one iota of what they’re throwing at them next week, so instead they pivoted to just grinding it out.

The drive Nico was scripted to get ended up going to Milton after AP scored and then we went right back to runs/screens.

Next week, I expect the offense to really open up. Whether or not we can execute is the big question. Defense is gonna have to show up big either way.

To be fair, the UT Martin game involved some of huepels famous vindictive nature. It also happened much later in the season.

And unfortunately had some key injuries during the game.
Good point.. they may have been trying to avoid some of this as well.. if they had played all keyed up like AP (in what essentially was their version of the Super Bowl)..people would’ve gotten really hurt… I’m not naive to think that was all of it, but I’m sure it crossed the coaching staff’s minds
