Funny how a lot of teams and players play the best games of their lives against us.....
It's the nature of the beast. We are a large proud fanbase that's hungry for success. Our passion can really grate on others nerves. Sometimes it comes back at bites us in the a**. That said I'll never apologize for my passion Hoss

I think Day was also in real danger of being fired if he lost the game after losing to Michigan for the 4th year straight (at home to a mediocre Michigan team at that).

He was literally coaching for his job yesterday while we were just happy to be there.
There was no way Day was surviving losing to Mich badly at home ( and for what 4th or 5th straight to boot?) and then to UT at home in playoffs. Especially since I don't recall that Day has ever beat UM. This was no different than having to go to Athens after they got throttled by Ole Miss. Maybe on any given day UT/OSU could go either way. But, with all that team went thru after the Michigan game it just kept building against us. I remember Herbstreit saying that howard said he couldn't even go out to eat without getting trashed verbally and personally the last two weeks. That's brutal. They had more going on than just winning a playoff game. Probably wouldn't have mattered much who came to town Saturday.

I think the hot seat talk just galvanized the whole team. They played as if they wanted to make a statement on their coach. It was the opposite of what I was hoping for

OSU won in 2002 with Tressel and 2014 with Meyer. They are kind of like the Georgia of the SEC - always good, but long periods of not good enough.
Yep, they've been close many times during this century but no cigar. Always a top 5 team but Day will find a way to choke. They're talent is always right there with Georgia and Bama. Day reminds me alot of former Georgia coach Mark Richt. With that said, it would not surprise me to see OSU win the NC this year as them - and Texas - have the most talented rosters.

OSU is expected to have 16 to 17 players drafted in the upcoming NFL draft and possibly breaking Georgia's amount of 15 around 3 or 4 years ago

I wonder if Stockton can get Georgia past the next round. I still think Georgia is the most mentally tough team if those 3. Kirby Smart is the closest thing to Nick Saban anyone has.

I think they just had a better game plan than us along with better players which resulted in a taken out behind the woodshed result.

Ohio State was definitely the better team, but I think the score could have been closer without the Injures to Sampson, Thornton and White.

But the difference in the game is that Ohio State dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and that is unacceptable. Pass blocking was all but non-existent and they were only rushing 4 most of the time. At least when Georgia did it they were blitzing linebackers and defensive backs.
Injuries are part of the game. OSU had their OL decimated this year with injuries

Those are both true, but I think Day had a sense of urgency for this game that Heupel did not. Now that alone wasn't the main factor for why we got whupped, but it certainly played a part in them putting together such a tight game plan.

Highlights:

This was the best game OSU has played in several years

He feels they were embarrassed from UM game, had a lot to prove

He wonders if they will have same mindset next week. Loosing to Oregon was not the same as loosing to a .500 UM team

He still wonders if OSU will make a change if they don’t win a natty this year

Much of the fan base sold tickets due to disgust over UM. Some are still mad

Some fans are really confident now and expect OSU to boat race Oregon and everyone else.

Said some Vols players seemed disinterested

He still wonders if NIL is sustainable as far as team unity. 18-21 year olds don’t see it as a business like NFL player. It would not surprise him if OSU lays an egg next week if egos get in the way.
Our team looked way out of shape and it showed on the OL/DL. OSU has one of the best strength staffs in the country with Mickey Marotti. We sincerely need to look at our strength staff.

For us I give credit to Chip Kelly. As I sat in 37A the closed end zone where was almost exclusive scarlet. Very little orange. I watched a game plan unfold of at least a dozen swing passes to the perimeter which it ended up taking our D ends to the flats to make the play. Made simple passes and avoided the heart of our defense placing our D ends in the one space they wouldn't be in advantage in open space against quicker players. It gave Howard confidence.

Also as in warmups I watched when Ohio State was running their offensive sets against air. The two throws to Jeremiah Smith were exactly same formation and locations he caught in warm ups. So while Im no coach but you don't have to be Connor Stallions to see those things and wonder if anyone in the coaches booth in box was watching and waiting to call in for preparation. I literally watched Howard's to Smiths timing and thought that play looks easy but good luck when our defense is in front of them. Well it looked almost the exact same of No resistance at all.

Wait so you are saying if you have top of the line coordinators they can come up with game plans that work in big games ? Wonder how long we will have to wait here for that ?

Smart coaches scripted out their game plan and tough, determined players executed it.

I guess it was a compliment to their gameplan and acknowledgement that they learned from their poor gameplay against Michigan. Meanwhile our coaches expected the Michigan gameplay from Ohio State. Then after first half of seeing it didn't adjust.

They will beat Oregon by two touchdowns.

I kind of wonder if Day beats OSU to the punch and finds another gig. I know OSU is a supposed “blue blood” but Bama, UGA, LSU have all won multiple nattys in the last 20 years while OSU has one if memory serves me correctly. Even Auburn has played for 2, one more than OSU.

Since 2000, OSU has played for 5 titles and won 2.

Even though they lost to Michigan again, I wonder if Buckeye fans will back off and give Day a break.

Felt similar to UGA 2022. We talked a lot of crap, Ainge called their fans quiet, Stetson Bennettes number was leaked and fans called him nonstop the night before the game. At some point we need to act like we’ve been there before. Don’t need to be giving them any ammo before the game. I get a lot of it was good natured fun, but at a certain point it becomes over the top.
