I'm not a comic guy much, so thus will seem like a dumb question to you all. Isn't Spider-Man a marvel character, and why isn't he with the avengers?

The Spider-Man character's film rights are owned by Sony instead of Marvel/Disney. The same with Deadpool/X-Men/Fantastic Four film rights are owned by Fox.

However they worked something out and he is supposed to cameo in Captain America: Civil War.

I think Marvel got the rights back to Spider-Man, there's a new movie in the works also if I'm not mistaken

They are going to make a new Spider-man trilogy from what I read, or that's the plan, and SM probably will show up in future Avenger and other MCU movies since he's officially part of it.

They don't really own the rights, it's just they worked out a deal with Sony so that he can be in the MCU. Sony still gets most of the say on how he will be used.

And before you ask (in case you think of it), the X-Men, Deadpool, and the Fantastic Four are all Marvel too, but same thing. 20th Century Fox owns the movie rights to all those characters.

Also, Universal owns some kind of distribution rights to any solo Hulk movies, which is why you haven't seen a new one of those.

Thanks,I couldn't remember exactly how they were doing it

I'm sure they're having to fight tooth-and-nail to hold on to that coveted Fantastic Four contract.

BREAKING NEWS:

J.K. Simmons to Play Commissioner Gordon in ‘Justice League’

J.K. Simmons to Play Commissioner Gordon in ‘Justice League’

J.K. Simmons is on board to play Commissioner Gordon in Warner Bros. and D.C.’s “Justice League” sources confirmed to Variety.

Simmons takes on the character most recently played by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy.

Warner Bros. had no comment.

Filming on “Justice League,” which opens Nov. 17, 2017, begins next month with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot on board to reprise their roles of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, respectively. Ezra Miller is also set to play the Flash with Jason Momoa playing Aquaman.

Zack Snyder is in the director’s chair.

Commissioner Gordon was the last major role to be cast before production on “Justice League” began with most of the cast making cameos in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which bows on March, 25. Amber Heard had recently been tapped to play Mera, Aquaman’s love interest, who will make a small cameo in “Justice League” before appearing in the “Aquaman” pic.

This isn’t Simmons first dip in the comic book universe playing the role of Jonah Jameson in the Tobey Maguire “Spider-Man” pics.

Simmons can next be seen in “La La Land” opposite Ryan Gosling. The musical reunites Simmons with director Damien Chazelle of “Whiplash,” which landed Simmons the supporting actor Oscar in 2015.

He also co-stars in the upcoming thriller “The Accountant” starring Ben Affleck.

'Justice League' Adds Willem Dafoe to Cast

'Justice League' Adds Willem Dafoe to Cast

He'll go from Marvel villain to DC good guy, although the details of his new character are being kept under lock and key.

Willem Dafoe is joining the good guys in Justice League.

The movie began production last week with Zack Snyder, fresh off of the worldwide tour promoting Batman v Superman, in the director’s chair.

Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), the Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) are the super-powered characters who must team up to combat a threat beyond each member's capabilities. (Warner Bros. is playing it coy about whether the villain is classic DC bad guy Darkseid, who was hinted at in BvS.)

Chris Terrio wrote the screenplay for Justice League, which will be released in two parts by Warner Bros. Justice League: Part One will hit theaters on Nov. 17, 2017, while Part Two is slated for release on June 14, 2019.

In early March, the production added J.K. Simmons to the cast as the Gotham City Police Commissioner Gordon.

Dafoe, who starred as the villainous Marvel character Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, is playing a good guy in a role that will see him appear in both parts of the JL movies. Details of his character, however, are being kept under lock and key.

Charles Roven, Snyder and Deborah Snyder are producing Justice League.

Dafoe memorably appeared in the Keanu Reeves action movie John Wick and recently wrapped shooting Legendary’s fantasy The Great Wall with Matt Damon.

They do not own quick silver or Scarlett witch...just their father...which is why marvel had both in ultron but with different origin stories.

They also own ANY future characters marvel creates for fantastic four..which is why they may shut the comic down. Talk about a bad deal.

I guess you missed Quicksilver in Days of Future Past and Apocalypse trailers. They exist in a legal loophole between Avengers and X-Men.

As for FF, the comic is already on a hiatus following last summer's Secret Wars event but I guarantee it will resurface in a year or so. They did a similar thing with Thor a few years back.

The Flash director has bailed over "creative differences". This is the second director to leave a DC project. They are coming apart at the seams.

This is what I said.

Marvel owns them but not the origin story of magnetto as their father. Wb owns magnetto which is why that wuicksilver is the son of magneto but in avrngers he is not.

Fox does the X-Men films not Warner Bro.

Some good stuff here but Warner Bros is going to have to cut the cord and let people make these films under DC with less involvement from WB the way Disney has done with Marvel.

The whole letting the directors be in charge with everything is just dumb considering that some of them probably knows very little about the characters or their backgrounds.

Warner Bros Responding To Fans & Critics With DC Films Shakeup

Warner Bros Responding To Fans & Critics With DC Films Shakeup

Deadline has confirmed a major reorganization at Warner Bros regarding the approach to the still-building film series based on its DC Comics properties. Warner Bros declined comment, but sources with knowledge of the reorganization have confirmed that DC chief content officer Geoff Johns, who helped establish the brand’s presence on television, and WB EVP Jon Berg will now co-run DC Films. While DC Films has long been a production banner within Warner Bros, it will now exist as a formal division as the studio seeks a course correction after the mixed response to Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice earlier this year.

Batman V. Superman was not a flop by any measure, but the film received mixed reactions from fans and was panned by most critics. The superhero tentpole also performed slightly below expectations, grossing about $870 million since debuting March 25. Meanwhile, rival Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, which mines similar territory but is tonally very different, was a critical smash that has already made $957 million in just under three weeks. It also looks on track to break $1 billion before its first month of release is over.

However, while the WB move is a major step for the studio, it is, we’re hearing, not a reactionary one. DC Films is not being created as a clone of Marvel Studios, nor does Warners intend to copy the Marvel method of making films— which is to say, Johns and Berg won’t be occupying a role similar to Kevin Feige at Marvel. We’ve been told that the so-called “director-driven” approach Warner Bros has touted since first announcing the DC Extended Universe is very much still in effect. Johns and Berg, who will still report to their respective superiors within Warner Bros as they attend to their other duties, will be providing guidance and structure to the task of building out the DCEU. Individual directors will therefore retain control over key decisions including casting, aesthetics, and certain story elements.

That’s in keeping with recent news coming out of Warner Bros. As Deadline exclusively reported this month, Ben Affleck, who starred as Batman in BvS and was already on track to direct, co-write, and star in a stand-alone Batman film, has been made an executive producer on the now in-production Justice League film. Berg is an integral part of that growing relationship with Affleck — he worked with the actor-director on the Oscar-winning Argo, as well as Affleck’s upcoming Warner Bros crime thriller Live By Night.

There’s also this week’s news that Margo Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn in the upcoming Suicide Squad, was instrumental in the successful pitch to make a film based on DC comics’ roster of female villains and heroes.

Berg has already been heavily involved in the DC Extended Universe (WB’s answer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe). He’s worked on Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and Justice League. Johns, meanwhile, brings his expertise on DC lore and history to the DCEU. A longtime comics writer, he’s behind the upcoming reboot of the DC comics universe, “Rebirth,” alongside his involvement in DC television, and he’s co-writing the stand-alone Batman film with Affleck. Both will serve as executive producers on Justice League.

The main thing, so we’re hearing, is that Warner Bros and DC have apparently been paying close attention to the reaction of fans and critics to Batman V Superman and the studio is keenly interested in being responsive as it maps out the future of the DC universe. The next films include Suicide Squad, which hits theaters in August, followed by Wonder Woman on June 2, 2017, and Justice League Part One, currently filming, scheduled for November 17 of that year. They’ll be followed by The Flash, still set for March 16, 2018 despite the exit of director Seth Grahame-Smith, and the James Wan-directed Aquaman on July 27 of that year.

Other films to come are Shazam and Justice League Part Two in 2019, and Cyborg and Green Lantern Corps in 2020.
