That is correct. They actual time was 9.76 so they rounded him to 9.77 for a tie. Still, that dude can fly.

Yep, adjusted a day after the race, so Gatlin has tied the record.

Is it only me that smells a rat? Notice the IAAF rep says he believes it is the first time a record has been taken off the books for a timing error the day after the race was run.

Are there any Bammers in Quatar?

Seems a little strange to me it takes a whole day to figure this out.Rounding off should only apply to income tax returns.

I say we figure out what the Jamaican's actual time was and prove if Gatlin did in fact break the record. The rounding issue is a lame excuse. Clearly at this level, there should be another decimal point added. What kind of sham are they running here?

The International Association of Athletics Federations said a timing error in Doha gave Gatlin, formerly a runner for Tennessee, a time of 9.76 seconds, which was one-hundredth of a second below Asafa Powell's world mark of 9.77.

Looks like he got it to me.. :dunno:

youd think this day in time the technology we live in that a beam of light could be set up with a time device so that when the light beam is interrupted it stops the clock ....like a camera shutter high speed. If this isnt what the use , maybe they should.

That's what I was thinking. You can't get much faster than 9.766 and still be rounded up. So, without knowing the other guy's exect time, Gatlin was probably faster.

We need to make sure they send that (malfunctioning) clock back to Neyland Stadium prior to 9/16/06. :biggrin2:

Don't forget the SEC director of officials, AP voters, BCS selection committee, and those evil telephone poll vote counters on American Idol...
